Default Fair Scouting and Feeder Clubs

I'm new to this and notice that within this community there's a way of playing the game and I'd like to play it as fairly as possible. I think there have been a couple of threads like this but just want clarification on a couple of points.

On scouting I know that player search seems to be th biggest taboo, every player must be scouted. However, IRL, through watching football on TV, reading match reports in the papers and general talk on the terraces you get to hear of quality players so I'm sure that managers must be aware of them as well especially if they have played against their team. So, if I wanted to take in interest ina player I had heard about is it still fair to search for him or to ask my scout to take a look at him? What is the fairest way within LLM guidelines to look at players like this?

Also, what is considered a realistic feeder club. My local team is Welling United in the Conference South, they're only 5 or 6 miles from Charlton and there is an annual pre-season friendly between them although I'm not sure if there is a player link. Is it 'realistic' to have a link between Welling and a club like Charlton or Crystal Palace who are only a bit further away. What is considered a realistic level for a Conference South club to have a link with, Conference, League 2, League 1, Championship, Premiership?

Thanks in advance for any advice and I'm sorry if this is coverying (very) old ground.

If memory serves, it was accepted that if a player plays against you a certain number of times (4, possibly?) you probably don't need to scout him.

The 'well-known' players issue is slightly different. If the media keeps telling me that a certain player is playing well recently, I might consider sending a scout out after him. But bear in mind, if you're in the Conf N/S, it probably doesn't matter which players are making waves in the national press or on TV, so some common sense is needed.

The Feeder Club issue is different and actually has its own thread. Give it a read.

Thanks for that.

The point I was trying to make about the media and well known players was actually meant to be regarding those I know IRL. I read the match reports in the local papers and hear about conference north/south players through that, and if I know about them then Iim sure a real life conference south manager would as well. But, in keeping with the guidelines of the game, how do you go about looking at a player who IRL I know about, is it fair to go after him or send a scout to watch him or should I only go on reports and what I see happen in the game?

You can enter into one of the LLM grey zones by looking at things such as top scorer charts etc within divisions, but you must still scout the players that they highlight to you.

No.

Real life knowledge doesn't count in LLM. The "realism" we strive for is "in game" realism, not "real life realism" *phew*

Just to clarify my stance, badly worded as it was.

Really :o

So if you're stuck in the one division for 2 terms virtually every player is open slather without scouting. That's a new one to me.

I think the easiest thing is if there's a player you're interested in for some reason (other than search, of course) just scout him. No matter what, scout him first.

Just wanted to fix the ambiguity that may be in this message:

I don't believe that it's actually following the LLM ethos and guidlines to be using charts and lists of any kind to search for a player, and I know it's not right to use player search. If you want to enter the use of lists (which is still debated)then make sure you scout him before signing. It's just easier to just trust your scouts, IMO.
