I just got the game and the first run through I started on January 2006 (I'm american so it starts me in the US even though I intend to manage in England).
I wanted to manage in England but nothing happens there until the end of the season so there were really no jobs to go after. I unsuccessfully applied for whatever came up though but the time finally came when I basically ran out of money and took a job as a fry cook. My dreams of glory were dashed.
I tweaked my setup slightly and managed to start my 2nd game around July '06. As usual I started off unemployed and tried in vain for lowish league vacancies throughout europe with no success (surprisingly there were no LLM spots available for quite some time). Eventually I got an offer! Despite having no experience I was offered the job at relegation threatened GAIS in the Swedish premier league. If I averted the drop I'd get to keep my job. This isn't LLM of course but it was the only job I was offered so I wasn't about to say no.
Anyway, I wasn't able to save GAIS and I was sent packing with a one way ticket out of Sweden. At least the Swedish season ends early enough that I'd have another chance at an English club before the season ended.
Wanting to get back to the business of football management I took the next flight to England and started contacting clubs whose managers looked to be out of favor. I told them how if they found themselves without a manager someday they could call on me to do them proud. From this there appeared numerous reports in the press about me, usually next to the man bites dog story, that I was smelling of desperation (which I was). However, I finally got the job to resuscitate Droylsden's season (huzzah! - Conference North action!)
While I had no transfer budget I actually did have a bit of room with wages. I was told not to have more than 2 coaches but the board didn't prevent me from hiring 2 extra coaches later in the season.
The big problem though was in scouting. While my competition was securing loans and wheeling and dealing in the transfer market I patiently waited for my 2 scouts to give me some options. For some reason my scouts were only providing me with reports on players in the USA's MLS league despite specific instructions from me (and restrictions from the board) that they were absolutely not to leave England on scouting trips. Do MLS matches get broadcast in England? Maybe they just lost their remotes, Eventually I did convince the scouts that english cuisine is superior (lies!) and they finally started sending some useful recommendations to me but unfortunately it is hard to do much without any funds.
In any case the club finished mid table so I will be here for another season. Hopefully my scouts will be too!
