I had to laugh when playing earlier today, after a goal one of the players ran to the fans and the stewards were struggling to hold them back...
The "crowd" was 81. |

I love it when the goalscorer rushes towards his fans to celebrate then come the second half the opposition scores and rushes towards his... ah wait a minute did the fans change halves as well or is there no segregation??

If you believe that commentary falls under the edict of not using editors or third party updates, then I think you've fallen into blind allegiance and have left your sensibilities behind. Personally I've never edited commentary in the game, but this is an aspect of FM that, by SI's own admission, is cosmetic.
More importantly, if you really play the game as SI programmed it and intended it, then technically you would make use of commentary, DDT, and other files. SI intended these files to be editable by the user, and SI even explains how to use them in sticky topics and so on. Clearly there is an intention that people will make use of these features. They're even selling points of the product.
So unfortunately this rule is rather incoherent. The logic doesn't really flow in the way that was suggested.
Moreover, if you insist that people should never deviate from the game's original state when you first install it, then you must also refrain from loading kit and logo packs, or any other graphics that are available for download.
As hopefully you can see, this kind of logic can go too far. It easily becomes part of a very shortsighted and overzealous mindset that begins to eat away at the true spirit and enjoyment of playing FM the LLaMa way.

Very well put, Greg.
There might even be a new aspect to the game where LLaMas have to change the setup out of the box (apart from deleting the 'fake' files), namely the hints and tips that the game gives. One can (and should, really) delete those to remain pure of heart.

I was under the impression that changing the commentary etc. would mean use of Satan which has been made clear is unacceptable. But if it's ok to do then fair enough. I was just pointing out that in the rules and guidelines it states you play the game as SI intended. For better or worse SI put Satan into the game for people to use.
No I do not download any of these kit and logo packs, infact this is the first I have heard of them. The only downloads I use are the updates and the super-tactics etc. etc. |

Nah, the commentary file is just a text file stashed away in some directory or other.
I added a few lines here and there for FM06, but it goes on forever, so I simply couldn't be bothered making a proper job of it.

| In England it is common place for fans to change ends at half time along with players in non league. It's only the teams with larger crowds in the Conference National where this practice stops and segregation comes in.

| But this gem of commentary occurs throughout the game irrespective of league - ok it would probably be possible at Wrexham but can't quite see it happening at a ManUre - Liverpool match for example

No, perhaps you should change it to "He runs up to the opponents fans and waggles his **** a bit" then. |
