Ahem ... if you could all just stop hitting each other with your zimmer frames for a moment please ...
Season 6 (2010/11) Bradford Park Avenue (Conference North)
A busy pre-season sees me sign four new players as well a new three year contract, and whilst the board are saying that they'll be happy with a respectable season, I'm hoping for a bit more. As ever, my staff are too, and the customary departure of an assistant manager heralds the start of the serious stuff ...
Three of the four newbies start the first game of the season, and it looks like we might have struck gold with a pacey 19 year old striker as he grabs twelve goals in his first twelve games and we go 15 games unbeaten.
The run comes to an end in the first round of the Cup, but the next thing I know, Torquay are offering me £300 a week. Showing the kind of loyalty I expect from my staff, I turn them down ... and the players promptly repay me by losing our unbeaten laegue record in the next match :kris102:
For six of them (including the leggy teen and my captain) that isn't enough though, and instead of looking forward to a local derby with Halifax in the Trophy, I'm spending most of my time consulting our physio as I endure the worst injury crisis of my career so far. Thanks to the defence (our pensioners up front are having difficulty with their eyesight) we're still in with a shout of a playoff spot, and with the return of most of the wounded we hit another run of form to finish second on goal difference.
Final Record (2): P42 W18 D17 L7 F61 A39 PTS71
FA Cup: 1R 1-2 v Reading (A)
FA Trophy: 3R 0-1 v Halifax (H)
Playoffs
We're drawn against Altrincham, but unfortunately it's too soon for the wonderkid (how quickly we've come to rely on him) so I end up pitching my tried and tested striking partnership into battle ... and for the first (away) leg at least they come up with the goods, both of them scoring as we win 3-2.
Given our home record (only one defeat all season) I'm reasonably optimistic ahead of the return, but injuries to my first coice 'keeper and one of our midfielders (food poisoning for the second time this season ... I keep warning him about the curries
A bit more strengthening (funds permitting) and I think it's going to have to be an all-out assault on the title next year ... I'm not sure I can go through this again!!!
