Thanks for the warm welcome!
On reading my initial post through again, I've just realised that I got the season numbering wrong - Season 1 was of course 2005/06 and I'm now on 2009/10 ... Season 5 (2009/10) Bradford Park Avenue (Conference North)
The board and the fans are expecting us to achieve a reasonable position, but I'm worried that we might have a hangover from last season ... a feeling that isn't helped by the close-season departure of three more members of staff and a pre-season injury to my first choice 'keeper ...
But our glass is half-full, not half-empty, and we get off to a flyer - an eight game unbeaten start in the League, and only one loss in our first eighteen games, and we're top, even though we aren't playing well.
Bouyed by our position, we start trying to play football, and that's where things start to go wrong; whereas before, we'd been drawing games we should have lost, now it's win or bust, and with a win/loss record of 7/11 over our next eighteen games, we're looking anxiously over both shoulders in the race for a playoff spot.
The return of a couple of stalwarts from injury eventually sees us home in fourth, but there's a distinct lack of optimism as we head off to Worksop for the first leg of the playoff semi-final; our glass now looks half-empty ... and by the time we turn for home it's been drained by a 4-0 thumping in what was probably our worst performance of the season.
The second leg's an improvement, but time has already been called when Worksop nick a late winner to win 1-0 on the night and 5-0 on aggregate.
But at least there's one party in Bradford as City (now managed by a legend at falling off parked cars) win the Championship ...
(where's the emoticon for envy when you need one)
As for next season, I think it's a case of tinkering rather than wholesale changes ... we need some bite the midfield, and a bit a pace up front, and see where we go from there ...
