Id say it should be generally acceptable to retain players in the country you are playing... perhaps even the region (scandanavia, the UK etc.)

Of course the self flaggelation brigade will probably never do this.

The countries I intend to play in are the Uk & Ireland, which is why I retained the players in thosae countries. The main reason I have picked the other leagues is to get a more playable experience now the huge database has been removed.

Instead of retaining players from a given nation, which will only retain players of that given nationality, you can set up a DDT file to tell the game to retain players from particular clubs that you specify. So if you developed a master DDT file for every club in England, you would guarantee that every non-league player would be included, even with a small database.
