Marc Vaughan was kind enough to post some tips for those of us concerned about a the loss of huge DBs. Point #1 is interesting, although #2 seems a bit too close to Satanspawn for me to be comfortable with it.

Tips for including players

Alternatively, one could just play the game with your leagues selected and not worry about the size of the db so much...

I played '06 for the most part on a small db and enjoyed it just fine. While it may have limited the save somewhat, I doubt if I'd have even taken much note of that if it hadn't been for reading others comments on playing with a huge db.

I say just suck it and see.

I don't get it.

Selecting more leagues - ok, we are playing lowest league possible, say in UK. You load England, Ireland, N. Ireland, Scotland and Wales, just like you did on 2006, but you have less players because you can't select huge database size.

What other leagues would you want to load? There's no point including other countries in europe because what Italian is going to move house to play for Basingstoke?

Hopefully this doesn't step over the mark as far as LLM goes, but in order to maintain realism it is possible to ensure that the three feeder leagues to the English Conf N/S are active in the db by doing the following:

Open Notepad.

Copy and paste this:

The original logic behind avoiding 'retain players' files was that doing so for countries would unbalance the game in the long run. With the almost complete lack of players below Conf N/S level 2 months into my save (bar a few loanees), the clubs that get promoted to N/S are going to be shafted.

I didn't know you could retain players for clubs and if I start another game before SI fix the Huge database, it's certainly something I'll consider.

At least by retaining the Ryman league clubs realistic signings can be made

Could someone run that 'retain' thing by me again? Don't really understand what it does.
