Alright, so I've just found this game in America and I absolutely had to have it... when I play other games like this (American football, basketball, etc.) I love taking small fry clubs to the top. So, here I go on what I've found as one of the best games I've yet played...
(please forgive me if I miss out on some realism - I must admit I'm from America, so I'm not as well-versed on the 'real' parts of soccer across the ocean)
2007/2008 - Queens University Belfast, N. Ireland Second Division
Staff: Started with 1 assistant, 1 coach, and a physio (this should be a 'trainer' in America, by the way). It took until very late in the season to get a scout.
Prediction: 11th in the league.
Cups: Won the N. Irish Intermediate Cup - amazing 10-9 penalty win in an overall good year.
League: Near the top most of the year, clinched in the penultimate game.
Finances: Bad and got worse - from -26K to -162K balance *gulp*
Transfers: 2 in (including quality GK signed before I came on), 5 out, 2 out on loan
POTY: Pacy (Speedy) striker - 30G/12A/9MoM in 31 app.
Commentary: Tons of offense - 84 goals in 38 games. I enjoy my aggressive style and it certainly helped this season.
England d. Spain on penalties for Euro 2008 - what could have been, eh?
Inter Milan d. Chelsea in the CL final.
2008/09 - Queens University Belfast, N. Ireland First Division
Staff: Replaced assman, scouts, physio
Prediction: 8th
Cups: Bad.
League: 'Proper league bonuses' motivate team to win league in the 2nd to last game AGAIN. Movin' on up!
Finances: Uh-oh. lost 260K this year...
Transfers: 19 in, 16 out, 14 out on loan (+$8K)
Player Notes: 2 NIR U19 call-ups - 1 of them was capped.
POTY: Finally signed striker with tons of potential. Very helpful, even if he doesn't feel like signing a full-time deal.
Commentary: Went young and it paid off... good and getting better, hopefully.
CL: Man U d. Roma.
WC '10: US sitting a pretty 2nd after 5/6 games in final group. Let's go to work...
2009/10 - Queens University Belfast, N. Ireland Premier Division
Staff: Whole new staff... lots of quality, and signed GK & fitness coach.
Prediction: can't remember
Cups: ordinary.
League: Climbed to 8th, but fell to 12th. Survived - whew!
Finances: Down 450K. Cue 'Jaws' theme...
Transfers: 8 in, 19 out (+39K & have sell-on clauses for 3 players).
Player Notes: 4 Capped on U19 level. Excited about this young, young team's future and ready to take on Glentoran et al.
POTY: Quality part-time striker, but sold for 60K + 30% sell-on for cash infusion.
Commentary: Apparently, consecutive promotions (when the long term plan is to establish ourselves in 2nd division!) isn't enough to save my hide. Sigh - on to England; maybe they're a little more understanding there.
CL: Arsenal d. Barca 2-0.
WC '10: USA draws Brazil (0-2), Croatia (2-1) and Australia (3-1). Loses to Italy on penalties in the second round. Looks like 'Plan 2010' is delayed a bit, but there are a lot of quality youngsters on the side... I'm excited for the future of American soccer
2010/11 - Matlock Town, BSN (lowest predicted available job in England)
Updates to come - but I have a VERY famous assman, making $14K/year, with 70 caps for England. A 'sunny' 35 year old former Arsenal/Pompey defenseman. What the heck is this guy doing here with a 34 year old head coach?
Oh, and Brazil 2-0 Spain in The Final. I guess that means USA=Spain; I'm OK with that.
Hopefully this was all good for my first update - I tried to follow the stuck rules!
