One of the slightly odd things about how SI have implemented team talks is that you don't know what effect they had (other than the change or lack thereof in team performance) until your AssMan tells you the next day.

Normally when you talk to people in the same room as you you can see the reaction in their faces or body language immediately. CM 08 at least has some feedback at half-time to your pre-match talk. I'd like to see a feature, or something better, like this in FM.

The team talks are stupid and nobody can defend them. I don't understand why SI keep shoving in these ludicrous "features" when they clearly don't work.

Encourage for winning 1 - 0
You can win this for 0 - 0
if winning more than one goal .. 'pleased' those player whose rating 8 or more .
you have faith with them for player rating 6 or less when winning no matter how many ..
Prove a point is very good to use .. for '6' rating player when losing or draw...
and Finally , For the fans at half time when u play at home ground and losing or draw during cup , CL match but i do use for league match also , tat help a lot too...
Good Luck

I have not yet tested 08 intensively but I am sure in 07 "you have faith" or "you can make a difference" works best on strikers/am with rating 8+, instead of 6.

Ha. I wouldn't have put it quite the same, but i did share your sentiment about the 2-0 lead at HT, especially away.

Whatever was said had more chance of doing my lead in than not, it seemed.

So, the revelation came when i decided not to say anything 2-0 up, sometimes 1-0.

This can be very good, but angers some of your players especially the unsporting ones. So watch out for that, but try saying nothing sometimes at HT with a lead, it can do good !

The problem with team talks is that they are meant almost entirely to be motivational, which is totally wrong and unrealistic.

Team talks are there to instruct your players for that specific match how you want them to play tactically against the opposition.

At half-time team talks are for the manager to instruct the team where they might have gone wrong and need to change or just general adjusting for the second half.
Basically the manager just covers what he wants the team to do for the rest of the match with diagrams and or technical advice, not a bloody dull and repetetive sermon, that would be counterproductive ffs!
Motivational talks should only be used at the manager's own discretion. Either for important matches (like a champion's league final) and any time he deems it necessary, in case of rare moral problems which of course shouldnt be too often.

Humber - That's why it brings the tactics screen up too. I can't imagine that any manager wouldn't end a tactical half time discussion with 'Come on - I want to see more from you' or something similar.

He wants to fire his players up.

Humber - I fully agree with you.

I think the team-talks should be removed from matches and instead bring it to the squad screen as an option like: Choose "Have a team-talk before the next match" and then you could choose something like "This is the most important match in the season" and it COULD give your team a morale boost. At least it shouldn't have a negative effect.

Of course if you said this more than couple of times it would lose it's effect.

I think you just can't simulate the motivational speech that managers give to their players without an insane amount of time and coding. So it should be obvious that the manager tries to motivate the players and no need for dull team-talk options which have very random effects. Maybe the assman's motivating attribute could have some effect.

To sum it up: I think at the current state the team-talks doesn't add really anything to the game (of course it looks nice in the feature list), other than some unwanted confusion.

Can't you do this already? If you don't want any team talks just select "none" at the pre-match prompt.
