I've read that the patch changes wont take effect until after you start a new game. Is that just to do with players etc in the new database or will everything (game engine etc) still be running at 8.0? I'm playing as Inter in 2012/13 and don't really want to stop but it seems that the patch is really worth it. Any way to get the current game over to 8.0.1?

Tha patches are all compatible with your current save game and most of the fixes will be implemented when you reload your save game. Some things, like data changes and some of the fixes will require you to start a new game for them to be implemented. It is therefore up to you whether you start again or not but there is no need to start again unless you want to.
