all this talk of England not playing 'as a team' and how they would struggle against a Championship team who play with each other week-in-week-out etc etc'...
had an idea, which when searching seems that someone in Nov2005 tried it, but didn't quite get it to work.
thinking of re-naming Watford and swapping all their players with the 26 from the latest squad, 3 keepers inc, etc etc....so, oops, Rooney and Tommy Smith will swap !...
I suppose the club rep would need tweaking and the wages budget, but may have a go with the editor later to see what comes up.....I guess unless the club rep is tweaked all the superstar will want to leave to go to 'bigger' clubs....
anyway....I'll let you know...and poss release the database for others to have a play.
I think England are a good team , they have a good manager, The problems are (in my opinion , I'm probably wrong)
Their isn't a decent striking partner for Rooney. What i mean is their isnt a decent poocher)
Owen is injured to often.
Andy Johnson isn't that good(Again my opinion)
and Darren bent is a good poacher but he doesn't play for a big team so yeah again in my opinion he won't be a big england player until he plays for one of the top 4 or Liverpool :p
England has a awesome defense , Awesome midfield and a decent strike but unlike other teams, England insist on playing so their wingers only cross in balls but don't play like attacking wingers like Man u , Chelsea and Arsenal play. I mean Gerrerd should Play like ronaldo and try scoring, Downing should play like how Robben does and attack inside and try scoring and not insent on crossing when no one in the team except terry and Ferdinand can head.

Would agree with all but 1 or 2 things.
You cannot play Gerrard and Lampard in the same team...it's now been proven time and time again, and it just does not work.
We have a total lack of world class strikers, saying you have 5 in your squad of 26..it would most likely be:
Michael Owen - always injured
Andy Johnson - nowhere near worldclass, and a gust of wind would make him fall over.
Peter Crouch - cannot play with Rooney, but is not THAT bad
Jermaine Defoe - needs games, and goals
Wayne Rooney - not really a striker...more a 'hole' player

Sorry for double posting, pressed the wrong button.
That would be McLaren's 5 strikers.
Mine would be:
Darren Bent
Michael Owen - ONLY IF 110% FIT!
Peter Crouch
Dave Nugent OR Michael Chopra on this years form
Wayne Rooney.
I would also really look at seeing if Frank Quadrue can play for England, he plays first team footy, there are alot worse than him after Cashley, (Wayne Bridge) and he can play left midfield.
My starting England XI
Paul Robinson - only because Foster needs more time
Micah Richards
John Terry
Rio Ferdinand - just...he truely ain't that good
Cashley Cole
Aaron Lennon
Steven Gerrard
Owen Hargreaves
Joe Cole
Spot on about Lamps and Gerro and also spot on about the strikers, clovis_kanda87. Darren Bent deserves a call-up IMO, he's better than Andy Johnson. Wayne Ronney is showing nothing to prove his first team place either (not that we have anyone to replace him).
Anyway this isn't a discussion about England so keep it on topic! :p
Your experiment sounds interesting, if internationals (in game) are anything to go by, England will win the quadrouple!
I think there are 2 major factors to why we underachieve, which kind of go hand in hand together and they are;
1, Lack of experience - Lennon, Downing, Johnson, Richards and Robinson who all started the last game, none of them play regular Champions league football or play for the top 4 English clubs.
So they lack the experience of playing on the big stage and are not used to playing in a team that is favourite to win games.
2, Only one player plays abroad - With the exception of Owen and Woodgate, none of the players have any experience of playing different styles of football and an understanding of the foreign mentality of football.
Sometimes its not just about ability but also about education!
got 30 players in squad....except only after I booted up I realised I'd forgotten Beckham.....oops....sign of the times....actually bid for him but he 'had no intention of moving to England in the near future' :p
anyway, only had time to play one friendly...and drew 0-0 with Pinkie Palermo.
to speed process I actually released all the Watford players on freebies...didn't perhaps see the point in swapping them with the England players as not many, if any, would actually play for the MU, Chelsea, Liverpool's etc where most of the England players came from.
