Boys, do you reckon that it would be more effective if we set both the human team to exactly the same instructions? This way we can have twice the chance of seeing the sliders in action. Also, how about using only the extremes—all the way left and all the way right for the sliders? For efficiency we could also change the slider at half-time. If we do this and ues only two extremes then we could carry out the experiment in half the time. What do you think?

Actually, would it make more sense to have one team set to the far left extreme and one team set to the right so we could observe the contrast?

I will join in on the reasearch. The way I will do it is I will tell you how I played the tactic. Watch the full match and report back with the differences and simliratitis I saw. The screenshots we really need is the match and plar stats one. Maybe the possesion bars as well. But what could be better than a personel explenation?

Methinks screenshots will not be enough...you'll need pkms as well. Screenshots don't tell the whole story..you'll need one for player stats both home and away. These stats tell the story as far as whether your team is playing well or not..another ingame feature that is helpful is actionzones...this tells where your possession comes from. Sometimes teams can have 60% possession, but when you look at the action zone its distributed in midfield and not in attack.
Be careful using screenshots..i've always said screenshots don't tell the whole story. Personally whenever i test out my notions I look at a whole gamut of stuff before I reach a conclusion, and I generally share pkms with people to see if they reach the same conclusion.
We once had one saved game uploaded. And 10 people used the same saved game, and tried out different things and then one person would collate all the results. This proved to be one of the best methods.
You would all need to agree as far as the parameters are concerned. Do you use teamtalks..which happens to be a key feature of the game? Are you just looking at results? Or are you looking at the flow of the game..which then becomes subjective.
Will you use one tactic only? And agree on the tweaks? I would suggest that someone design one tactic for the test and then go out and try it. The idea of using a 442 is not a bad one. But different formations have different requirements for closing down.
You cannot very well use the same closing down instructions for a 442 with a 343, it won't work. What may hold true for a 442 may not apply to other formations.

I couldn't resist temptation so I began the experiment just to show you how I plan to communicate observations to you all. In just one half of football I feel I have the mentality slider completely figured out. Mentality Experiment Man Utd V Chelsea
Man Utd instructions — All sliders to the extreme left (mentality ultra-defensive)
Chelsea instructions — All sliders to the extreme right (mentality all out attack)
Take the next two screenshots: Evra on Ball |

All this shows with mentality is this...Mentality has an effect on positions. Look at the wingers of chelsea when they have the ball and compare them to United when they have the ball.
Mentality affects positioning as well as they kind of passes that will be played

Rep Power: 0 | Mentallity Experiment
My experiment was a little different than yours. I started with Barca and watched the first full friendly. Against PSV. I also kinda figured out how the mentallity works in about one half of football. Instructions: Started with Barca. I made sure everything as mixed on all players. Corssing, TBs, RWB, LS, and FWs. Team instruction all in the middle except for mentallity. Which I started off the match with 1. After 30 minuted changed to 6. At halftime changed to 10. After 60 minutes changed to 15. That is when I stopped. I knew it all.
Mentallity effects two things for sure:
1. Positioning
2. Chance 1 Mentallity: 1-30th minute
Players sitting back close to the goalie area when other team has the ball. And further back in the 5 yard box when they do have it. When we have the ball we harly took any throughballs and crosses. Also very rarely forward runs by any players. And everything was on mix. 6 Mentallity: 30-Halftime
Players are now a bit further up the pitch with and without the ball. A little bit more throughbalss, crosses and forward runs. 10 Mentallity: 45-60
Now the players are even farther up the pitch. I see a lot more off the ball movement and chacnes taken. 15 Mentallity: Rest of game
For the rest of the game we played much better. That is in fact whenwe scored the only goal of the game. The players were very far up the pitch. Defenders came up to half way point now. Everytime my attackers had the ball they tried taking on a player and getting to the forwards. Conclusion of First Experiment:
Nothing new to us. wwfan already told us this. When you give a player a certain mentallity it effects his positioning and chance. I know this was only one. But the meaning of mentallity is so much more clear now. I think from now on I will always have the mentallity, the def line and the TB/CB on the same number. Theyre supposed to contridict each other.
My next experiment is to do the same thing with a lower league team. See if the behaviour is different.

It wasn't fan who discovered that mentality affects positioning...mentality has affected positioning since 03/04. And that point was already raised during the demo days.
