I just started playing fm2007, and currently I'm doing brilliantly in Croatian league (my team is NK Zagreb). 2nd place two games before the end and I have a shot (a very slim, but still a shot) at the title, also in the cup finals. This was totally unexpected at the start of my first season. When I started creating my tactic, I pretty much copied the one I used in fm2006. I use classic 4-4-2. D-line on high push up, attacking mentality, slow tempo and mixed passing (I'd use short, but I have a pretty tall and powerful striker, so mixed was the way to go). Closing down was high too. However my defenders are on defensive mentality, low creative freedom and low closing down. I scored 70 goals in 31 games, having the best attack in the league. On the other hand I conceded 59, having one of the worst (if not the worst) defence in the league. Which means there are 4 goals average on my games. Unrealistic and unacceptable. To refrase the problem, insted of winning 5:4 I'd rather win 1:0, or draw 0:0, or even lose 0:1.

Ofcourse I've been changing and tweaking tactic during the season, but I've always kept my 4 defenders on low mentality and low closing down. All other team sliders I've been changing, to no succes.

Any advice is welcome.
