Very Important, if the training is poor your players attributes will decrease meaning they play worse.

Moreover there are talented youngsters and rare wonderkids who are absolutely useless without training. With proper training they can turn into stars worth millions.

It's not that silly a question, after all, surely you should be able to leave it on the default training regime created by SI and still get fairly decent results without spending hours devising your own wonder training regime.

Training is important, yes, but if you don't understand it and don't wish to get involved with it then, by all means, dont. You can eitehr download one of many regimes made available and just be done with it (as I choose), or you can quite happily leave it as standard. You may not get the best results ever, but at least you wont see many of your players dropping stats.

Sorry but I think the effects of training are very minimal from my point of view.

A player with a potential ability of 190 will out perform a player with a potential ability of 150.

I tested this using 2 youth players I created in the game. I groomed the weaker player while left the PA 190 player to rot in the reserves.

The PA 190 player still had much much wonderful stats than the other..

Just my point of view though..\
