That setup is bound to lead to a lot of long balls towards your striker. I prefer to have mine with more defensive mentality than the rest of the team, so that he mixes with the offensive buildup more.

But, of course, whatever suits you.

Also, I don't really get good results with "forward runs", so I leave that to "mixed" and just use the "run with ball" often (assuming that he's fast).

This just shows the set up of the lone striker. What is perhaps more important is the set up of the sliders of the midfield. Having a fast striker encouraged me to try lots of through balls and having him run on to them. This is flawed (not in real life) in the game and results in lots of shots on target but few goals. Lyssien is right that you should try to get the striker involved more in the build up so that he has options going forward. You really want him to pass the ball more than trying to shoot at every opportunity. Even if long shots are set to rarely, he will shoot if left with no option and no-one to pass to. Watch the games in extended or full match and you'll see this is the case. It is very often missed though if you only watch key highlights.
