Completely agree with what you say Ian, and also hate that the game is ruled by money, but it is just a fact that we have to accept. Perhaps that is why we choose LLM.
The reality is that top clubs have to watch finances as well. Just look at Leeds spectacular fall from grace a few seasons ago. And how many teams are starting the season on negative points due to financial problems. That cant help with getting promoted

I've started watching my local team this season (as I've said on many fora, probably this one included) and it's given me back the excitement I had as a young man following and watching Hearts yo-yo between the 1st Division and the Premier League.
What gets me most is that there's virtually no histrionics in the game. We're serious promotion contenders, "crowds" average about 40, and the players (semi-pros on retainers) play for the football, not for the cash.
I watched the FA Cup 1st round game between Weymouth and Bury and the commentator and pundit commented on the lack of cheating... That's what I like about the Scottish Junior Football Association (East Region) South Division.

I just read a piece about Keano at Sunderland decrying players wanting the money rather than the football.
Looks like I'm in good company with my thoughts |

I also wish football was more about the love for the game.
Strangely, this topic reminded me of one of the most happy football moments in my (short) life. A former Internacional Paraguayan DC came to play against us for Corinthians, and scored for them. He didn't celebrate the goal. He just put the ball under his arm and took it to the midfield.
The stadium was full, and everybody started chanting his name. What he did showed more love for Inter than most of the people who were raised here will ever have.

I think you've forgot half your post Ian.
Did my post make you think of Rachel Unitt? |

No, it made me think of paint drying, funnily enough.
Pulchritude is no substitute for skill in the beautiful game.

From Dictionary.com:
physical beauty; comeliness
| Make of that what you will.
I don't watch enough women's football to make a decent comment, although I did work with England's new physio. (Not the same, I know.)
