The other rule that SI seem to forget is that a player cannot be offside from a throw in.
Thus in FM when you, or your opponent has a throw in in the opposing half, a player generally goes to the advanced winger position (in what would ordinarily be an offside position) and is ignored by any marker.

I am frequently found screaming at my players. "MARK THE B@STARD, MARK HIM, SH!T NOOOOOOOOO"

My scout comes across a SW/D C with some wonderful attributes. I'm slightly perplexed that he's on the transfer list and has hardly featured for his team despite being, on paper, the best centre-back they have, but you don't look a gift horse etc., so I quickly snap him up.

A dozen or so crap games later I take a closer look and find that he is "unconvincing" as a centre back or sweeper and "awkward" as a defensive midfielder. And that's it - he has no natural position, not even one he's competent in.

FFS, international expectations are fecked. First the fans want me to uphold the nation's honour during the qualification. Which I interpret as don't get slaughtered, do well, but it's no biggie if we don't qualify. Then we somehow manage to qualify, and now they want us to challenge for the World Cup. WTF?!?!

Every countries fans expect them to challenge for the World Cup (within reason): hyped up expectations given your over performance in qualifying. I assume your FA are more realistic?

Well, there may be a bug in effect there. I've managed the team almost three years now, and the FA hope it will be a long and successful era etc.

Doesn't matter much though. I'll retire after the World Cup anyway as int. management sucks donkey-balls and I'm sick and tired of it.
