I have been using AVG for more years than I care to remember and have had no problems so far, touch wood.

Tester Mod Marlow has stated that although this is a problem, it will be fixed in patch, so rather than making any rash decisions, you might want to just hang on till then.

My system is more than four years old, and is pretty knackered tbh, so total corruption of data wouldn't be a bad thing in my case. More like an inclination to save up for a new system

Like Craig, I've used AVG for years and have had no problems to date. Hopefully it will stay that way.

The new free version does set it self up to run scans automatically at funny times, so you do have to amend/disable it manually.

I've never turned AVG off when playing. One of the reasons I use AVG in the first place is that it isn't an utter resource hog like Symantec and their ilk put out.
