He's probably not got anyone in a decent position to pass to due to the team playing too wide or the individual mentalities of your players being too far apart meaning the people he should be passing too are too far away from him.

This might not be the exact cause but there will be a reason for it and it will be down to something you're doing tactically.

I think your wrong about this Chopper mate, as it is a known issue that i believe will be getting sorted out in the patch.

I've done tests, taking away all long shot instructions AND CF from my players, yet they will still shoot from distance, even if they have a clear run at goal?.

Fair enough, I haven't been in the bugs forum at all recently so wouldn't know if this is a genuine bug. But the fact is that I've got my tactic set up so that my players rarely just shoot from anywhere and always look for a pass.

If you'd like to try it for yourself it can be found in the tactics forum.

Yeah I have found that a problem against teams like everton and bolton.

I will give the tight zonal marking a go and see how that works out for my douche bag defenders. Cheers.

I'm not actually looking for a tactic mate, but i will take a look to see what you do to stop your players taking pot shots, thanks!.

I'm not struggling with the game, in fact i have found it pretty easy so far, my main problem is the 2D match as i think it looks terrible thanks to the closing down problem that resurfaced in the latest Beta Patch and many other terrible things that i'm hoping will be fixed with the Official Patch.

Good luck. You might want to be careful about tight marking very quick strikers as they can get away from you at times when doing this. But the best way to get it right is to just play around with it and see what works best. Just remember different approaches may be needed against different types of players.

That might be the difference to be honest. I haven't downloaded the latest beta patch, just stuck with the first one as I was happy with the way it was going and happy to stick with that one 'til the official patch came out.

I've just found that sticking to 'rule of one' or 'rule of 2' (i.e players individual mentalities are never more than 1 or 2 notches away from their closest team-mate) and not playing too wide helps the players to find passes rather than be forced to shoot.

Works for me anyway.

I think i usually have them on close down always. I would expect that to mean close down the player you are marking though....not every bastard on the pitch CMs seem to be the same to </BLOCKQUOTE>

There's one problem straight away. High closing down and man marking can be conflicting instructions. Closing down determines at what point on the pitch a player will close down the opposition, the higher it is the higher up the field your players will look to close players down.

So if you've got your defenders on high closing down as well as man marking the strikers he's likely to leave his man and look to close someone down higher up the pitch. </BLOCKQUOTE>

Yup, had a feeling it was the closing down. Set it to Rarely/Own Area (depending if you've got the game patched), then they'll only do it in their own penalty area and will be more likely to stick to the man they're marking.

I'm always afraid to man mark as my player quality is usually pretty low - I usually take an English League 2 side or lower Portuguese Bwin Liga club. Zonal marking system for me, lads!

turn his creative freedom right down as well, you want him to stick to being a defender, so make him follow your instructions.
