From the original article:
The new (star) system will be based upon a calculated standard for a senior player for that club.
Though simple, this is a huge improvement, in my opinion, solving three of the worst problems with FM'07.

First, if I was trying to sign a backup or "cover" player, the scouts pooh-poohed him, and the very low scout-rating (as he's compared to my best starter) meant that all of the scouts always recommended against.

Second, if I had a single superstar who played a bunch of positions, say ML/MC/MR | AML/AMC/AMR | SC, competently, every single midfield or forward I scouted got compared to him.. and trashed. Which was particularly frustrating if I thought of him as a striker, and was trying to scout a left wing, having never-ever played my superstar at left wing.

Third, in a formation such as a 3-5-2, where the player might wind up with no fullbacks, the scouts would report even mediocre fullbacks as a seven-star prospect and "must buy".

Assuming the "calculated standard" is correct, all three of those problems are fixed with this simple adjustment.

So, to SI for that change!

-Attributes should be masked longer or
-Depending on the scouts JPA stat they should be potentially wrong, increasing in accuracy the more you scout the player
-Scouts uncover stats too quick. Should be something like Key Physical, Key Technical, Other technical, Mental etc. Several reports should be required as this makes it more realistic. Currently you can scout a player and know EVERYTHING straight away.

Just a few of my feelings with regards to scouts and scouting.
I agree totally with Alurny. Attributes shouldn't be given so quickly and so accurately ! And for me the Fog of War should be really deeper.

I think there should be written also the number of stars close to the image of the stars.

When I go to the scout report I try to count how many stars are given to the players but they are drawn so close to each other and they are small, so I can't see well how many stars there are

Yes, I was gonna make a similar post to give SI the thumbsup for this.

Very well said.

The fact that in FM 07, they ALWAYS compared whoever you scouted to your BEST in that position really didn't make sense when you wanted to sign a guy just to add depth. Of course not that it stopped me, there were players my scouts wouldn't approve of because of that FLAW and yet I signed them as backups anyhow and a few even surprised me and became 1st-teamers.

But overall, like you said, it's good to see scouting improved in this way.

Now if SI can somehow get rid of or at least diminish the huge problem, me, you, Arsenal, DJ, dieguitoch, Alurny and no doubt 1000 others have with scouts being too reliable, fast and good... then there's a very high chance, I will buy FM 08.

To be honest, I'm a little surprised, this is only the first time I hear someone else saying this.

I TOTALLY agree. It's not fun counting those stars and still not being sure... :p lol

The only issue with scouting in the Demo I had was that every scouting trip only took a few days and then the scout had returned again.

Might be causes by the fact that I was playing in Finland but still.
