It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

That's not difficult to do. Have him on free role, slightly higher mentality than the other defender, and he should be on higher closing down instructions than the other DC as well.

He will move forward whenever he has the chance but guided by his decision attributes. I've been using this on my 424 with great effect. He does need to have RWB on actually.

@ wwfan - yeah, I like those thoughts actually, and i appreciate your input, I think I will indeed implement them; as I said before it will need minor tweaks here and there, I've also been watching my DVD's of Liverpool to get ideas.

@ rashidi1 - Thank you

Intriguing thread and an interesting idea. What better team to emulate than the mighty Reds from way-back-when!

As a Liverpool fan myself, I employ similar tactical methods when taking charge of The Reds in FM; A short, slow passing style with emphasis on possession and teamwork.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Good luck.

Ha ha, what can I say? As a knowledgable blue who is sick of living in the shadow of my neighbour, I have to get every dig I can

One day, the 'School of Science' will return.

TRAINING

Training will be one of, if not the most important aspect of my management of the club, as without good training my players will get nowhere.
So i must have the best coaches available, and in needing that I've cleared out almost all of Rafa's old staff and hired a bunch of guys who replied to my job center adds (And on (Saslano) who I head-hunted).
This is the complete coach list for the 1st team;

http://img470.imageshack.us/img470/2058/coachesxn9.jpg

As you can see I've got a 5-star rating for each training category (the 1st time I've had this) so my players have got the best in the business.
(As a side-note, i fired Pako Ayesteran because in all other saves he said in his team report that "the team needed strengthening in order to" whatever-the-goal-was...)
All my players have their own individually tailored training routine (I've always done it like this) and now there is a slight emphasis on tactics and (Ironically due to my playing style erring on the defence) attacking.

I do have one or two concerns before the season get under way, and it's going back to what wwfan and rashidi1 were talking about earlier; Liverpool DID shuffle the ball around the back four a lot BUT that was before the rule about passing back to the keeper was implemented which was like a back-up. And you know yourself how often we are given a virtual heart-attack by our defenders fannying around with the ball, then losing it needlessly to a forward..(Any thoughts?)
I fully intend to give Daniel Agger a free role as he would be the more likely to create something going forward (Carragher's creativity is non-existent). He also has the "Tries long-range passes" preferred move which will help too...

THE REVISED TACTIC

After the ideas of wwfan and rashidi1 were taken on board, thought over and digested I put on the 1981 European Cup Final to keep a close eye on Mr Hansen, his movement on the pitch etc and I've revised the tactic accordingly, Daniel Agger is my "Free Role" DC (God help me), I've put the other three defenders passing back to "team" but I've kept young Danny's at "direct" to encourage a bit of creativity from the lad, he also has a short farrow.
Also I've widened the team in general and changed the closing down etc..

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/3721/aggerqx9.jpg

We've actually played the first three games of the season (match reports will come soon) and I've been pleasantly surprised by Aggers performances, he's been my best player; he goes forward intelligently but doesn't just leave random chasms in my defence, he even set up a goal!

I will post those reports as soon as I've got a minute...
