I have a feeling you made a mistake with the targetman setting, because Eddie should never have less than 20 headers in a game, much less in 4 games in a row. Other than that, glad it worked (at least a little) well for you =]

Just popping in to hopefulyl be able to give you some feedback on your tactic(s).
I'm still playing my game I started ages ago (read about it in this thread: http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...7/m/6562061913 ) and I was initially using the Quadro tactic by Ulysayer(sp?), which served me well, but I don't care what anyone says, tactics are still cracked in this game. It's absolutely nothing to do with re-ranking. Anyway, I noticed that the uadro tactic was losing it's effectiveness so Iswitched over to your tactic as I got appointed at manager of Stoke City. The tactic was great - I narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premiership in the playoffs (penalties), but I didn't deserve to be there anyway since I took over in mid January and was lying in 15th place. Next season though, I dominated the championship comfortably and gained promotion to the premiership.
Unfortunately, Ididn't have the chance to test your tactic out with my newly promoted Stoke side as unbelievably Inter came in for me to take over in the close season with ~£150m to spend! You just don't turn those sort of offers down. Anyway, I continued to use your tactic in Italy, where things went very well. It's kind of hard not to with such a huge budget. After two seasons at Inter and finally breaking AC Milan's dominance (and putting them in their place), I finally managed to badger someone in Spain enough to be appointed as manager of Barcelona (again with huge ~£100m budget).
Here is where things started to go wrong... I was dominating teams, with over 25 shots every game (nearly always 10 or more on target), yet I was still only scraping results - the opposition almost never got more than 10 shots in total off, but there were seemingly scoring with every single chance! Super keepers started to appear with every ******* half time summary saying, 'Despite Barca's domination the teams are all square' or 'trailing..' then every full time summary as, 'Barcelaona won't believe they've lost this!' or 'Barca should have won this easily!'. To say it was ****ing me off was an understatement. My first full season, with top notch signings ended with me finishing in 6th place, just scraping UEFA footy for next season. Most notably, I got knocked out of the Copa Del Rey by 2nd Division Recreativo (over two legs!), knocked out fo the UEFA cup semi's by Chelsea despite having got a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge in the first leg. Against the big boys, Valencia, Athletico, while the matches were pretty even, their shots were going in at every opportunity and mine were just not. Also, I played Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu and I came away witha 5-5 draw! I took the lead 5 times too...
Despite this, I just thought that maybe my players weren't good enough, so spent the summer buying even more quality players. However, about 3/4 months in, it just wasn't cutting it. It was still the same story. So I decided to switch formation to Ulysayer's new Quadro v2. The transformation was dramatic. I was trailing Valencia by about 15 points, but managed to peg them back and pip them to the title by 1 single point ont he final day of the season (where we both drew, but the title was in my team's hands) - on the way we destroyed them 4-1 in Valencia.
I didn't leave your tactic to defaults all the time, I was always tweaking here and there, but it just didn't work. However, I have to say that when the computer hasn't sussed your tactic out, it works very well. Another notable thing was that I only ever used the Home tactic (even away) as I was always expected to beat my opponents.
The way that this game is going, I'll probably end up switching back in a couple of seasons when the AI cracks this current tactic.

I appreciate the feedback Scooby. I too belive the AI 'cracks' tactics eventually.. after 2 seasons of taking Arsenal to consecutive PRM+CL trophys, the 3rd season I literraly ended the league in 12th place and nowhere in the CL with exactly the same players, tactics and staff. If anything my players improved, none were old (above 28~) and so they could not have gotten worse.
As I have mentioned before, the reason you may have done weaker in the second season with Barcelona is the new set of players did not have the teamwork and chemistry down which really hurts teams in FM07.
Other than that, sadly I must agree that sometimes I find I have games with 20 shots on target and my opponents with only 1, and still end up tieing 1-1 or losing 0-1. I do find the game is weak when it comes to the Superkeeper business. I don't believe in superkeepers, but I believe that the team makes terrible decisions when it comes to choosing shots and this leads to poorer and poorer moral which leads to an even less chance at goal. If you can imagine the Chelsea games where they attack everything for the last 10 minutes when down... if they play that way for a whole game there is NO WAY they do not win by 10 goals, and I believe the game does not do a good job at reflecting that.
But hey, its a game =] Good luck.

I really hate when people ask if tactics work for specific teams. Its such an utterly pointless question that it becomes a waste of time just reading it.
But other than my rant.. with Man Utd buy someone like Zigic, Toni, Klose, or someone like that (and Eddie for backup, perhaps). Alan Smith should never be your targetman, he is not good enough to be a real targetman.

You've actually posted a lot of useful information with regards to tactics. Especially the thing about choosing the correct captains.
In my game, I played over 1/3rd of the remaining season with Barcelona, and results were encouraging, with domination, but not winning very well. I put it down to the initial 'breaking in' period required for my players to get to know each other. During the course of the next season, there were no signs that anything were improving, if anything it was getting worse. I did check my assistant team report where it stated that my players had forged an extremely good understanding (I know it's possible to get 'willing to die for each other' too). Then the decline really began the season after.
The switch of formation and phenomenal change just confirms my suspicions that the AI does 'crack' tactics.
A tip for those that are using this set of tactics is to get fullbacks that are almost like centre backs - attacking fullbacks don't seem to work too well with this tactic in my experience.
Currently, I'm in season 2017 and Eddie Johnson is 33! However, he's still banging them in like nobody's business and I've yet to find anyone that will be as good as him right now. |

I actually tend to use more attacking fullbacks for the simple fact that I have them swap positions with the wings, although I can see how more centerback fullbacks would help tighten up the defense.. but if you use that sort of defense turn off the swap positions features (on all 4 positions).
Eddie Johnson is quite a beast, isnt he? :]
I guess one problem my factors have is for teams like Barcelona, where once you become a really great team, teams play more defensively than you play offensively and so therefore you will be forced to play 'scrapperball'. I should make a more attacking tactic for future versions when you encounter this.
Glad I could help, and thanks for the feedback scooby

this tactic is working well for me.. my TM jo keep banging in goals but my players seems very easy to get yellow cards.. every match at least 4-5 players will get yellow cards.
