Using FM Genie just showed me that some of my coaches have a much lower PA (Potential Ability) than I would have thought.

So, I am thinking that the ideal coach has a high CA, high PA and 5 stars in the category you are looking for. But, if he has low CA/PA and still 5 stars, shouldn't he be just as good in that area for training purposes?

High PA/CA does not make a good coach. CA/PA is made up off all the staff abilities, including the hidden ones. You should look at coach %, although obviously a higher CA will generally mean a higher C%. Coach % will be made up of things like 'hardness of training' etc.

Obviously, yes, you want as high a star rating as possible in the category you are looking for. Bare in mind that a star rating of 4.6 and a star rating of 5 will both appear as a rating of 5 in FM.

On a side note, staff will slowly improve until PA=CA.
