I beat most teams in England and in Europe with great ease, then when I come to play against Arsenal I lose every time! Anyone else noticed this? Does anyone do things differently when up against the gunners?
Ive had problems beating them in the past. Ive found having your fullbacks manmark their wingers and your wingers marking their fullbacks helps alot coz arsenal play alot down the wings. Also try pressing them hard with your strikers and midfielders.
Presuming henry is still at arsenal in your game youll need a fast defender on his tail or maybe drop your def line down a bit.
Ive found that going all out against arsenal is suicide because they seem alot better than most teams in this game at hitting teams on the break.
Try, tight man marking across the midfield because the arsenal midfield is very creative. Try normal mentality, this is because, attacking they will kill you on the break, defensive you invite them onto you and they will simply destroy you by bombarding you with goals.
Ideally, you should man-mark henry and fabregas with hard tackling on the latter and preferably the faster of your defenders on henry, hopefully with a fast defender on his tail you shouldn't need to lower the defensive line by too much as this will also allow them to attack attack attack!
I don't think that closing down heavily is a good idea as many would recommend. This is because; arsenal almost always (at least on my games) attempt to keep hold of the ball an closing them down will likely just tire your players out, something which will create gaps which the likes of Thiery henry will happily exploit. That said, closing down with your strikers and wingers can be done heavily as this could force the defense (not so good on the ball) to either make a mistake by continuing their short passing game, or to punt it long. This exposing arsenals one attacking weakness in the sense that they don't have much height up front.
~ Don't offside trap them. They are fast and attack in blocks, so offside trapping will either be overkill or not work.
~ High defensive line and closing down - works wonders.
~ Always close down Gilberto Silva.
~ Hard tackle Henry. I've developed a reputation of giving Henry long-term injuries every time he plays.
~ Tight mark, close down and hard tackle Theo Walcott when young. Then you can release your full-back to a higher mentality that way.
Funnily enough, if you match Arsenal's tactics, it will work well if your team is simply better than Arsenal. Never say, oh, well, I'll just play defensive and then counter-attack - it doesn't work on this engine. Bump your defensive line up and play offensively. Bunch up your midfield if required. And hard tackle anyone whose passing percentage is high.
A lot of width helps, too. Arsenal suffer from lack of width.
Occasionally, you will get youngsters like van den Berg shoved into the team. Close them down, but you should do that for all youngsters anyway.
If Kolo Toure gets deployed at right-back, close him down. He is rubbish at right-back and therefore you can bump up the mentality of your left flank.
yea always cant seem to win arsenal with their fluent passing and henry always a terror in front of the goal. therefore i push up my defense to 5 defenders and bring down 2 of my attacking winger and setting a DM
