Reading and Portsmouth in real life are big cheats. United having won the title got re-ranked. But how in the world could a team which produced 42 shots in total against Portsmouth or was it reading only produce 1 goal, and to top it off, we've had our star player injured and another one sent off.
You guys are a noisy minority

| One decent effort against Reading i heard?.
How many of those efforts against Pompey were from distance?, then remember you had Tevez up front who is far from fully fit?(about 58% in FM terms).
The worm is turning mate, or are you too short sighted to see that too?.

Back to form after the Ajax game and should have easily won the next two fixtures that finished 1-1.
The Milan game was again full of farce, here is there 1st goal?, no creativity nessasary from them as Coker puts Gillardino through.
Oh and just for good measure, we help them out for their 2nd early goal too!. |

TBH this annoys me greatly. I know its not necessarily true, but it feels like the guys at SI are in no rush to improve the game engine.. maybe because there is no great competition with games like Championship Manager not coming nowhere near FM. But, currently I feel more like buying CM because I feel like I know they are striving to improve the engine of the game and enjoy features like prozone, it just feels like I am not getting what I pay for when I buy FM. Most of FMs improvements now are cosmetic like this new facegen thing. Now don't get me wrong because I think these features are great, but its fast becoming a game like LMA where the focus is on presentation rather than the football we play. Me personally, I'd like to see another overhaul of the engine which gets rid of sliders, I mean I can imagine managers saying play slow-short-attacking football, or you mark him (like we get in FM- this is realistic); rather than I want you to attack x/20 times and play at a speed of y/20.

A good win in the Cup seem's to put us back on track?.
But the Parma's 20 year old back up keeper gets a 10 thanks to a World Class performance?.

A good performance away to Leverkusen was spoiled by 2 more defensive errors.
Great ball by Buffon straight to the opposing striker first of all, before Coker plays a back pass/through ball for the opposition to give them the win.
Qualified top of the League still in CL.

There is no doubt that the match engine is broken. I agree with whoever said that it's almost impossible to fix your tactics by simply watching the game.. even if you know what the problems with your team are, there is either no option to change it or there is but it involves adjusting an obscure slider which you would think wouldn't have anything to do with it.
Unfortunately, I came across all these problems mentioned in this thread far too many times - to the point where I tried to play the game loads of times and gave up every time within six months of the first season. Then one day I decided to give it one last go, created a tactic and I've only lost 18 games in five years (currently haven't lost a game for over a year now).
What we need is more accessibility in the game. I'm actually well up for having more options and sliders in the tactics screen (providing we know what they do) but most of all, I wish we could go back to the CM days where you could create a tactic with any formation in little or no time at all and could still enjoy some success.
In the end I got lucky with FM07, although if I try and change my formation which I'd like, I'd end up struggling again.. at the end of the day, computer games should more than anything be fun. To a very large degree, FM07 is just infuriating and frustrating. It is not fun.

I do agree that their are some flaws within the game engine but I am a firm believer that the game does not cheat you. Now take for example my Newcastle Utd, we are 4th in the league season 2 and are away to Man Utd who are the top side in the league in the cup 1/4 finals. Now we were 3-1 down after 68 mins so quite clearly my Counter Attacking approach did not work and I needed to get back into the game so I had to come out attacking and increase the tempo and add more pressure to close them down earlier and increased my D Line to squeeze the space and the changes paid dividends as hopefully you will see (so long as my image works )
I keep my formation and tactics exactly the same for any game whether it be away or home with the only changes being when Away I decrease the team mentality by 3 notches and tick Counter Attack. This approach that I have has kept things rather consistant and yes you will have the odd game whereby a player has an off day but then isnt that just like in real life?
Was losing 3-0 away to a 15th place Charlton side so again I took the same approach as I did with the Man utd game and managed to claw it back to 3-3.
Now if this were the AI whom had come back from 3-1 to win 4-3 or 3-0 down to 3-3 people would be screaming on how the AI cheated them but quite clearly I did not cheat the AI. |
