Since my little boy wakes up at 5am every day I was lying on the settee watching The Aristocats with him and thinking ahead to the Conf North playoffs I had coming up later in the day. It occured to me that it's a lot easier to get relegated from the Conf National (4 relegation places) than it is to get promoted from the Conf North / South (each of which has 1 automatic prmotion place and a second after a four team play-off).
Then my mind wandered to considering how they decide which teams relegated from Conf National play in the Conf North and which in the Conf South.
For example: if Morecambe, York, Halifax and Harrogate, which are all northern teams, got relegated from the Conf National, would two of them end up in the Conf South? I can't see that being very popular with the chairman - just think of the costs of travelling and accomodation!
Does anyone know what happens IRL, and can anyone describe anything like this happening in game (eg: getting promoted from Conf North and then getting relegated to Conf South?)
It's all to do with boundaries of england, what is north and what is south.
If for example 3 northern teams are relegated and one southern, whatever committe it is will now look at the geographical situation and see who can be rejigged to another league without too much expense with regards to travelling.
It doesn't just count the teams relegated, it counts every team in the two leagues every year, I think!

Although in real life a club cannot be forced to move for three years after they have made the switch between the two (although I'd assume they can request within that time).
