In the "Transfer List" thread the arguement was made that while the manager didn't have time to search websites for players to play in a particular position, the scout would not only be watching players but reading news media, ringing contacts, following up rumours, and so on.

I think, therefore that you shouldn't assume that the list of names your scout comes back with are all players that your scout has seen in the flesh. Most of them will be tips he's picked up from other sources.

If that's SI's take on it, then I'll accept that (with the odd grumble). However, the fact that they are looking into it suggests it's not working as they planned.

It's definitely not working as they planned. Scoutlists of 14-1600 players for lower league clubs in a database of 18000 players is bullshyt, regardless what anyone says

A scout knows 10% of the entire known footballing world?

Nah.

I can tell you I could get a list together of at least 90% of the players between the premiership and the conference south in a day. I am guessing that list will have pretty close to 5000 payers on it.

And all the list will tell you is the player’s name, maybe their position and what club they play for.

It is no going to tell you anything about the players attributes and it is certainly not going to give you a personalized report from your scout on each player, those things take time and I am completely guessing here but any more than 3 or 4 reports a day is probably excessive especially considering that all our scouts are part time and paid 20 quid a week!!.

You guys are probably right, but I'm not sure if my scouts have returned so many players.

I filter their searches anyway, since you can filter a scout's search just like you can filter a general player search. I don't use the attributes filter, but a filter for position, age, availability, contract and, first click of all, filtering out what my AssMan thinks are unrealistic targets. That means that I only send my scouts to actually look at a small minority of players that have showed up anyway. I also arrange them in order of star rating. I'm not sure that the star is very accurate, but that's how I pick my transfer targets anyway.

What Ian says is valid. SI may have intended the scouts to pull up a larger list (using the reasoning I and others mentioned earlier), but that large a list is silly.

However, from my scouts list of 397 players, ticking the Assman's 'realistic' filter reduced it to just 5 players...

So apart from the risk of crashing to desktop, it's not a game stopper.

I doubt you could. In fact, I dare you, I double dare you, to do so. :p

Okay well I got the list together but I cant post it here, 5000 incidents of players naming would not go down well with Ian

I wouldn't dare pollute myself with some many player names or bore myself with the tedium of the search But I would suggest a good starting point if a scout wanted to do that would be to go to each teams website.
