Default Not turning Professional = Relegation?

OK so i got my team up from conference North. (Yes i rock, or perhaps rode my luck in the play offs.) Fans and the board are shocked... and as a result i don't turn Professional.

In the conference my first 3 scores were.

8-0 drubbing away (My 10 men behind the ball, contain and counter strategy proved to be a somewhat flawed tactic  )
1-2 demolished at home, (they had 21 shots, 4 on target. I had 1 shot on target... My "play proper football lads" tactic turned out to be the same game as my first. Fortunately their strikers were *****.)
1-1 Yes! A point (Not sure what happened. My team managed to pull off a bore draw )

The question is, is it a nearly foregone conclusion that not turning professional will lead to a hard relegation battle? Its near impossible to get league 2-3 rejects to join a part time club, leading to signings of conference n/s players.

Has anyone actually done well with a part-time team in a professional league?

Furthermore does anyone know if there is a good chance of turning professional if i can survive the in the league? Also do you need a nest egg to help inspire the change?

Survival in the league will help matters, but it'll be hard due to the reduced training as a part-time club. Or something like that.

I would think that turning pro would have something to do with funds of the club. When players and staff are part-time the wages a often less than those who are full-time. I would also say to help matters any signings you do make the contract a full time one?

*shruggs* slug it out is all I can offer

I got promoted from Conf north at first attempt, but then sayed in Conf Nat for 5 seasons, (all the time remaining semi-pro). I then got promoted to League 2 where my club went full-time.

I know other teams have turned pro upon promotion to Conf Nat. I think it is all dependant on club reputation and as we do not start off with a level playing field, there is no hard and fast rule.

I have never seen a club promoted to League 2 and not turned pro.

As for it affecting your chances of staying in the league, I wouldn't have thought so. You can still offer players full time contracts and even coaches who are also players can also be on full time contracts so it shouldn't make too much of a difference.

Scouting/physio's and all other non player roles will remain part-time, but a far bigger hurdle to overcome is the increase in sheer quality of your opposition.

Keep at it .

Thanks Jimbo, i just wanted some sort of confirmation that it was still in my hands. After 3 games relegation seemed like a foregone conclusion. I guess i need to assess where my problems are and try to patch them up asap.

About full time contracts. If you have a full time striker yet part time training staff would he still be getting part time training?

I would see it as the striker is training on a full time basis, but the coack is only supervising him on a part-time basis.

I went up to the National Conference after my first season with Northwich Victoria. The board decided to go pro and it didn't help, it still took me 14 games to get my first win. So it probably has less to do with being p/t and more to just adapting to the higher level of play.

I moved on after 6 games.

W 1 D 2 Lost 3

With the team under a more experienced manager they are sitting comfortably in 12th place. I guess that answers my question

I went up to conference National, stayed for two seasons, back down to Conference North, and promotion straight back up. Still not turning pro even though we have 600k in the bank and two promotions (albeit one relegation as well).
Starting to get ****ed off with that chairman who claims he loves the club.
