I think macaroni pie is an Italian Pasticcio, which is actually similar to lasagna, but instead of using lasagna pastry, you use those wide macaronis.

The nearest description of a Macaroni pie I can get on the web is........"I think macaroni pie is a scottish thing. its macaroni cheese in a pie thats then deep fried."

I went to a Franz Ferdinand gig in princess street gardens about 18 months and I had deep fried haggis on the way back to Carlisle. It was megatastybrilliant.

Oh Good God they do a Lasagne Pie as well :eek:
As for how it's made it's evidently pastry (Italian) wrapped in pastry (Scottish). Sounds like a good excuse for something to wash it down with if you ask me.
