So anyway when you're asked if you are interested in signing a player, one of the options is to say something like, 'I don't know what you're talking about, I've never even heard of (Insert Players Name).
Now obviously this is used when you have no idea of signing a particular player, but could this have a negative effect on you as a manager if you say you have never heard of a player who you certainly should of, such as Ronaldinho for example.
Is there a chance that players may lose a little faith in you as a manager etc, or is it just a way of saying your're not signing him and the actual words don't have any meaning.
Personally I think it wouldn't have an effect on your team and you could pretend you hadn't heard of Pele and it wouldn't make a difference but I just wondered if anyone had any other experiences or opinions.
In all honesty IRL if Alex Ferguson were to say he had never heard of Thierry Henry for example they would begin to think he was losing his mind! Even more so if Arsene Wenger said it haha!!
I think its yet another case where the text doesn't say in English what the game interprets it to mean. I do wish it were more precise - especially on the "outbound" side, as in this example.
Tell me exactly what I'm saying, please, and don't rely on "Oh the press sometimes twist your words" to excuse intentionally misleading me about my inputs!
Amaroq- what about the "Neil Warnock has magical powers" one? I'd never had said that if I'd known what the press thin was going to turn into, but I'm glad I did, it was great!

can't you just say you have no intention of signing him?
though as far as a direct answer to your question i have no idea
Yeh it's not a problem, I could say that, I was just asking for opinions on whether or not it has any effects on your managerial ability or the team because it should do.
What made me think of it was I just lost 3-2 to Man City and Elano scored a hat trick, the next day I said I had never even heard of him, I think if that happened in real life there would be question marks over the manager!!
If a real life manager said that in seriousness then he would be immediately sent for medical testing and his job would be in question, no doubt about it.

You've got it all wrong mate.
This media interaction only happens when you have the player in question on your shortlist. Which means, that not only have you heard of him, but you have looked into the possibility of having him in your team at some point in the past year (by default).
The "i've never even heard of $player" is therefore clearly meant as a joke, intended to mean that you have absolutely no plans to sign this player.
And the Alex Ferguson bit...if he said he's never heard of Thierry Henry, most people would interpret that as a negative comment against Henry, as if to say that he isn't worth noting as a footballer (in other words, that Alex thinks he's rubbish). It would be seen as a challenge, and not as Sir Alex losing his mind.
I think he has a point. SI obviously didnt mean it as a joke and it means what it says. I can see the point its disrespectful but If you didnt like the player why would you have him on your shortlist????

They don't always come off your shortlist, sometimes it throws randoms in there to show that media reports can actually be false sometimes, I've been asked before If I'm signing a player that I generally have never heard of before.
And If Sir Alex really did say that about Henry the media wouldn't interpret t as though he thinks he is nothing as a footballer, it would clearly be insane! If he were to say it about someone on the decline then fair enough.
If it was just there to clearly state you had no intentions of signing that player then how does that differ from the, 'It's just speculation, I have no plans to sign the player' response.
They must differentiate from each other somehow otherwise it is pointless.
In real life, a world class manager says he's never heard of a world class player whom he has faced and probably made specific tactics for.
Do you really think the media is going to jump to the conclusion that the manager has gone senile? Come on, be serious! This interpretation wouldn't happen in a million years.
