My first attempt at a skin and I'm wondering how to get started.

First off is it easier to design the skin in a 1024x768 page and slice it or to take each section of the skin and do it individually?

Second, how do I create the header bar etc so the colours are right in game? I assume it's in the config file, so do I create it desaturated?

Any help and advice would be much appreciated, I think I have the graphical ability to make a skin now but I'm not sure how to go about it.

I found it a lot easier to work with a copy of an existing skin, then work on each section (header, footer, sidebar) one at a time. This will save you a thousand times, when you stuff up some xml.

The recolouring of headers, etc. is dealt with by the 'rthr' attribute (you'll find them in header.xml and footer.xml) If you're using that, then it doesn't really matter what colour you use for the base image.
