I would say no that it wont work without starting a new game. My opinion, i could be wrong though.

I sat there all night and done what you said word for word. never worked. so i un-installed and tried again word for word never worked

I 100% honestly cant tell you why. You MUST of done something wrong? you got a different game version or a wierd type of computer?
Check that when you transfer a player, e.g. larsson to man utd. the contract date 1s 01/06/06. Just try updating 1 player and testing it that way, rather than updating everyone and being disappointed.
What type of installation did you choose?

It seems to be working for a lot of people, not had anyone apart from yourself, saying it didnt work

Believe me i have tried and tried and tried again word for word, I am obviously doing something wrong. I do get a pop up but all i see is two databases both saying default
I'm out of ideas I know im doing something wrong but cant see what

Well if you are getting a pop-up then something is working!
Try saving your database twice, as two separate locations
