It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

How is this random? I want Teves to be creative and setup Ashton. I want Ashton to score goals.

The numbers I used did that for me, they were not random because they had a intention and that intention was realised.

Yes I hoped those settings would be successful and they were for me.

The reason for the previous caution response, is if you make one sweeping statement on here at the moment you get the cheat police on your back.

But there wasn't any need for your last comment was there? </BLOCKQUOTE>

i must apologise leroy! my comment was in no way directed at you!

it was a general comment due to the lack of responses there had been to the question, where i summised that in fact there seemed that there are very few people who do not seem to know what exactly they are doing!! as me too! hence the question!

but i was grateful for your reply and i took your insight onboard!

For me its not random. If a player has high decisions and good technical skills then I will give him normal CF if he is playing with a 2 man strike force.

If I have a 4231 where I want him to remain as central as possible, then he gets low CF, HUB and mixed forward runs. No RWB

If he is playing as part of a trio of strikers then it depends on his duties. If he is the goal scorer he has the lowest CF, probably little and I give the ones around him loads of cf.

So it really depends on what you want to do. The challenge of course in 07 is keeping him central. That's often easier said than done. They tend to drift a lot to the flanks. Its been an issue for a while and steps are afoot to address it for 08.

In lower league football, its best if you keep CF's low as much as possible. They usually don't have the necessary attributes to play well with high cf. High CF will also affect you when you set up FWR, when a poor player is giving high CF and high fwr, he may more often than not disappear from the linkup play resulting in lots of aimless passes and he is left isolated upfront.
thanks rash! your input is invaluable as always!

i too set up similar to you and leroy by where i have 1 striker whos very creative and my goalscorer less so! this seems to work in the main but not always!

i'd like your input on the spurs strikers though as everytime ive been spurs, the strikers have been terrible!

i started a new game tonight and had the same problem where they just would not score! no matter what combination i used! after 10 games i had scored 8 goals with my top scorer on 2! i had the same problem when i took the spurs job after guiding my west brom team to 5th in the prem in my 2nd season! the offer was too good to turn down as the players were far superior, yet when i got there, they just wouldnt score! i had updated the db myself and bent was there too and me was the same!

i ended up resigning in sheer frustration as they all sucked the big one! especially keane!!

has anyone found a successful formula for them?

i'm not particularly a fan but i wouldnt mind having success with them as i like some of their players!

ps. i thought strikers pulling wide was down to having a high width setting?

I find that sometimes its the simple things. I tend to put a right footed striker on the left and a left footed striker on the right. They seem to bang in the goals.

CF can see a player drop back, now when that happens its important there are players behind him making forward runs. They won't be near enough if their mentality is too far apart. In such cases I make sure the mentality of my creative forward is the same as the nearest MC or AMC. That allows for some give and go as well.

i pretty much follow that rule too when using a creative forward, although i dont have them on the same mentality i have them very close with my poacher up further! but its just the spurs strikers i'm having problems with! they seem to work outside whats successful in fm!

No problem bob,

I'd obviously been in a narqy mood at the time.

Good luck with Spurs, just watch that the chairman isn't raising his skirt to every manager in Europe behind you back
