I'm completely with you on this arteta. Frankly, without wishing to get insulting about it, it wouldn't surprise me if some of these people who relentlessly defend the game are either cheating by re-starting (one poster in particular is quite obviously at that game, in my opinion) or are being paid-off by SI as spin doctors. It amazes me how some people on here continue to reject ANY criticism of this game, despite some overwhelmingly amateur anomalies and inconsistencies.

Every time I give FM another "chance" it's the same old, same old over and over again.

- There is absolutely no way whatsoever to defend long balls over the top. None. Even if you set your defensive line to the minimum they still push themselves up far too high and leave space for a striker. And whether I should be closing down the men playing the ball is irrelevant.

- Defenders and goalkeepers continuing to play long balls despite passing being short, plenty of options, creative freedom down, no through balls etc.

- The effectiveness of the direct game in comparison to short passing is still way out of kilter.

Arteta is spot on with his assertion that there is no way of finding out how to solve tactical problems i.e. how to get them to do what you want! You'd have to have a degree in statistics to even come close to figuring out the mathematical slider system.

FM2007 is a complete mess. Anyone considering buying 08, without major changes to the tactical engine, is in for much more of the same. Don't say you weren't warned

You're right lads. Why the hell is it so bloody dangerous to have a goal-kick? Midfilder wins header, striker shoots, goal. It's awfully scripted and predictable at times isn't it?

Notice how none of these fella's defending the game and claiming this kind of thing does'nt happen to them, NEVER try to upload ANY proof?.

I bet any money that if they upload their tactics/pkm's etc, i could pick them apart in mere seconds and show the exact same anomolies we see game in and game out!.

Not one of them is willing to put their money where their mouth is, i wonder why?.

Because how the hell can I show you proof that this doesn't happen. We've explained this a million times. You cannot prove that the AI doesn't cheat.

I agree there are problems in this game, I have outlined many of them and agree with a number of your criticisms. What I object to is the idea that this game is completely flawed and no fun. I'm enjoying it, I've had "cheat" games and I have repeatedly offered solutions and things that I have done only to be told I'm either lying or simply don't know whether what I did had any effect at all.

Again, I can't prove the AI cheats in exactly the same way as you can't disprove God.

I'm just going to add a couple of points of my own here, mainly issues from my own confusion within the game.

Firstly, what I would really like to see is player instructions, be they mine or opposition, actually WORKING.
That is, if I tell John Arne Riise facing a right-footed-only RMF to "Turn onto left Foot" i would actually like to see him doing this. Watching the match I would like to see Riise forcing the player inside who would then fluff his cross as his left foot is "Very Weak". Or force him to pass back.
If i tell my GK to distribute to my CB along the ground, i would like to see this happen explicitly rather than him doing what he wants.
I would love my DMC, when told, to mark an opposition AMC out of the game and actually physically SEE it happening on the pitch.
There's just so many things to do with tactics that seem to have a "Placebo" effect where they don't actually seem to do anything.

(This is the one good point about, if you've played it, LMA Manager on PS2 - although not in the same league as FM07 - you can see your tactics working (or failing!) all the time. You tell them (your players) to do anything, and they do it, you can actually SEE IT HAPPENING)

Secondly, and this really gets on my goat, I'm forever managing Liverpool but any time I come up against my big Rivals Man Ure, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton I cannot for the life of me get a performance out of my team.
I don't know why, no matter what team and individual talks I give, no matter what my tactics are, nothing seems to make a difference.
So? You may ask but my point is; I shouldn't have to try to get a performance out of my players against those teams, it should happen automatically but it doesn't. The end of match player ratings are always the same; 6's and (barely) 7's across the board.
And it shows when I watch the match; my players simply DON'T TRY. I struggle to believe that the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and co couldn't pick themselves up to play these matches, that they would just trudge onto the pitch and not really be bothered...

Apart from that I'm sitting on the fence...

Clearly there is a problem with FM, the numbers can not lie. 35% of folks already witness a problem with the game. This is an extremely HUGE number regardless of what side of the fence you are on, My question is this: What on earth can we do about it? How do we get the attention of Marc V and co.? Or do we wait patiently for 08? Although the 35% of people are doubters, the law of statistics states that this is a vast amount of gamers if you look at the whole 'cake.' Even you 'loyalists' must admit that this is too many?

Just treat it as we have donated to every SI staff member's "Caviar by the pot" Christmas fund for the next five years.

If the likes of MV doesn't bother or respond, what makes you think that posting in such threads will get them to suddenly sit up and do something about this crocked game?
