I agree with an above poster that Team talks are a problem for many (including myself). You screw up one and you get your ass handed to you. Morale drops, and unless you come right back your team will spiral.
The only issue I have is the blatent cheating of the AI. Example just played Tottenham away in the league with Fulham (fancied a challenge). was 2-2 up in the 89th or so minute when I get a corner. Now a draw away is respectable with fulham but low and behold Niemi decides to come up for the corner when there is no need. Tottenham clear the corner I have no goalie in goal, you can guess what happened next.

Are you kidding, Chelsea would get relegated without a manager, somebody to tell them what to do.
I agree. Seasoned international, world-class players are mere puppets attached to the strings that are being controlled and manipulated by the club manager. Without a manager, players instantly lose all ability and are unable to make their own decisions. In fact, a player without a manager will collapse to the floor in a crumpled heap and wait, sometimes for an eternity, until a new manager comes along and 'revives' the player.
The fact that you have EA before your name leads me to believe that you are a fan of the FIFA games. Need I say more? </BLOCKQUOTE>
Obviously they won't just forget how to play to that extreme, and probably won't get relagated, but they won't finish in the top three either with no manager at all, or even with a rubbish inexperienced manager.
Teams like Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool etc would never be where they are today if they never had good managers, and if what you say is true and managers don't matter then teams like Portsmouth and Reading would never exceed expectations. Ever.
And just look at England. For all he never took England to a competition victory Sven wasn't too bad of a manager. Now look at Maclaren, same group of players but lets face it, they've been rubbish.
Also, without a manager, who would decide who played week in and week out? All the players would want to play and with no-one to tell them who was in the first 11 chaos would ensue. So good teams are good solely because they have good players is very misguided.
I think the point someone made earlier was excellent. If we were put in charge of a top team in real life we, and that team, would fail badly. And that can happen in the game, simply because your a bad manager and don't know what your doing. This IS realistic. Whether that level of realism is fun is another argument....
Problem is that it's impossible to balance a manager game. All FM\CM games up untill now has been "too easy" (but fun), and now it's more more challenging (but not that fun). I think most people just want to "roleplay" a genius manager, taking their favourite team to champs league finals with ease rather than taking a degree in game logics
Surely the point of note here is that many experienced CM / FM'rs are underachieving, it means either that the game is flawed, or over complicated or not intuitive enough. If the game was a footy man simulation nirvana you would not get a significant number of such Posts. SI please take note.
By the way I played as Walsall in the pre release demo doing well - matching the team IRL, but in the released game (with all patches) I cant win a sausage though wwfans post have helped a bit

If someone cannot succeed, it does not necessary mean the game is a problem. For some reason people believe that we ALL are good enough to MANAGE football team, i.e. have enough knowledge of real football tatcic and the game logic. Reality is that we often lack at least one of this components.
The beauty of this game is that it does not have unique way to success. There are many problems, including lack of feedback and poor sliders-to-tactic translation, but it is what it is.
Many people say that wwfan's tactic set and his theory helps a lot. Same can be said about rashidi1, Millie, Cleon, Leroy and others (sorry if I did not mention someone). However, all of them explicitly state that they do not provide ultimate solution but rather approach. This means even if someone uses beatufully created tactic, he needs to think, adjust the tactic to his team (or team to the tactic), learn how to manage teamtalks and media interaction, etc. Otherwise people confuse this game - strategic MANAGEMENT simulator - with football simulator. No management can be static, neither irl, nor in the game.
The game really is a pain. tis is the first time inmore than 6-7 years that i'm certain i'm not going to buy the next version. i have good games to be fair, but the english leage in particular is rediculous... i'm on my second man u game (dumped the first as it was even more of a joke than this one). i managed to get in 13th in the first season. tactics are tried and i'm very pleased with them in spanish, brezilian, dutch and german leagues but nothing seems to work in the english. maybe that's the difficulty scale in the game, england being most difficult, but the main problem is that even till now with fm08 to come out soon, i still havn't figured out what makes you win or lose. one example, i beat arsenal 3-0 away(just a bit lucky, i have to admit, but only in not conceding, not in scoring) but then i lose 2-0 at home to southend (2nd season) now i would have not minded if the results were reversed lose 2-0 to arse and win 3-0 on southend but that's not half of it. Southend actually owned me, they bettered my man u team in every aspect of the game, at old trafford. the point is arsenal were attacking and we exploited the holes they left in the back BUT just because southend were defending doesn't / SHOULDN'T mean they can do to us what we did to arsenal, ffs they just don't have the players for it simple as that, and winning by totally dominating the game as well is rediculous. from all the leagues mentioned it seems its always harder to win against the smaller teams who go into a match defending, but the way a side with world class players just turn into morons just because of that is rediculous. lost games in a similar fashoin to reading, portsmouth (who have some quality, but won 4-0 too much)and leeds in the cup i think.... the unpredictability/ form of the team is like an on off switch
