If you did well last season then you need to go more attacking than you were against teams(increase width, tempo mentaility etc.), if you did poorly you need to do the opposite.
Teams have adapted to counter your tactics now you've got to do it to counter theirs
I sympathize with you Paul, I'm often extremely frustrated with the game and I think you should be able to choose a difficulty level. What annoys me most about it is how often GK's stop a top striker in a OOO situation, it's just unrealistic.
However I've been reasonably succesful with this game. My advice is for those who just want to have fun and not melt their brains with tactical pondering is to choose a rich top team like Chelsea, Real Madrid or Man Utd. Read about my MU experience here .
I managed to get Leeds promoted once but it was not particularly easy. I'm no tactical genius but wwfans advice about listening to scouts and planning with regards to that really helped.
Also I find it important to have at least one quick defender and striker.
I accept that some people out there are more successful than others, but i think that is because they have learned how to "clock" the game.
I don't believe the tactics work quite in the same way as real life. People say be logical, but i understand real football very well and copying "logic" from real life is not always succesful.
The game pays too much attention to the team-talks. This may be very important in real life, but there are more than 5 things you can say at half time!!
I too think way too many OOOs are missed, and if you can learn fairly quickly what type of highlight you are watching and whether there will be a goal at the end.
Now that i've had my moan I will say it is by far the most realistic management sim out there and the only one i would play. I enjoy playing it, and i'm quite succesful, but it is frustrating.
in it's attempts to become more detailed and realistic it has become more frustrating, and kind of given us a glimpse of how amazing the game could be without quite delivering.
I have downloaded a number of things but simply this is nonsense. A team with better players playing a decent formation over a season will beat lesset teams but this is apparently not the case with this game.
I simply cant understand how this is possible
It's very possible IRL - Sir Alex and Jose make it look easy but they arn't paid to do what they do because their job is easy.
If anything the reason Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are the best teams in the league is because they have fantastic managers. Steve Coppell has shown how an excellent manager can get a mediocre team far up.
On FM07 the value of tactics as opposed to players is intentionally increased because a great appeal and challenge in the game is the possibility that one can finish top 6 with Watford in season one. Likewise this has to work both ways so Chelsea can finish 17th.
I have played FM07 for 4 weeks (purchased from game for £9.99).Set up the first season as my favourite club Derby County,at one point managed 3rd place then fell away to finish a respectable 8th in Championship.
With minimum transfer funds available, scoured the lower leagues and purchased Marvin Williams from Millwall then added David Clarkson from Middlesboro.
I have a brilliant fitness coach with reasonably high stats, rest players regularly to keep their condition near to 100%,have set up customised,Defence,Midfield and Attack training schedules.
When players are injured they are removed from the 1st team squad and given the opportunity to gain fitness and confidence in the reserves.
My board are anticipating a top half league position this year and have made £250,000 available for transfer activity(plus players I will try to offload)progress is slow but I'm the patient type.
What I find really annoying with the game is no matter how high the morale, fitness and
confidence levels, the A1 appears to scupper my teams progress with multiple injuries, blatant penalty decisions in favour of opponents and the opponents appear to raise their level against my team,no matter where they are in the league, often scoring early or late in the game. Will the latest patch help to overcome some of these issues or am I just becoming paranoid about things?

Nonsense! It's all about the players. Reading actually have a good team. If Chelsea didn't have a manager they would still finish in the top 3 on ability alone. This game favours the collective effect of tactics versus player for player ability. That's where the game is flawed.

Are you kidding, Chelsea would get relegated without a manager, somebody to tell them what to do.
I agree. Seasoned international, world-class players are mere puppets attached to the strings that are being controlled and manipulated by the club manager. Without a manager, players instantly lose all ability and are unable to make their own decisions. In fact, a player without a manager will collapse to the floor in a crumpled heap and wait, sometimes for an eternity, until a new manager comes along and 'revives' the player.
The fact that you have EA before your name leads me to believe that you are a fan of the FIFA games. Need I say more?
