The point is that you have NO way of knowing if opposition instructions are the reason for your success. You may as well come on here and state that you are good because your wingers are on forward runs. On top of this you have no proof. At least Hammer and I post screenshots as much as they are shot down. If you want to post screenshots of it in action then I'll listen intently, but at the moment you are basically telling us nothing. That's the issue. There's no substance behind your claims, it's just hearsay and hearsay is useless hot air until proven or disproven. Sorry if I am being a bit harsh, but tactics are a selection of components that make up a whole. The way the game is in its current state, it's nigh on IMPOSSIBLE to segregate each component and discover its value due to the poor poor poor feedback system and manual.

I don't agree with Arteta very often, but I completely agree that for a game with such complex tactical combinations, the feed-back system is absolutely awful and SI desperately need to do something about it.

Arteta you are too wrapped up in your idea that the AI cheats or the game is a big random number generator.

My view is that the match engine follows the same rules for the human player as for the AI, so anything the AI can do, I sould also be able to do. The match engine does have flaws, but these are applied to both teams not just the human player. The AI has a head start because it knows what settings to apply to what players. I'm trying to learn what works and what doesn't.

The only change I made from my normal tactic was the setting of the opposition instructions, so to me this is in isolation. Also I am observing what my players do when they should be tight marking a player I have set and they should be closing down a player and they seems to be doing it.

I'm not making any claims that this is the panacea for this games ill's, but the closer I can get my defense playing like the AI defense the happier I will be.

Proof to me is in the pudding. If the defender, actually close down the attacker and win the ball back or tight mark them and win headers, if ultimately I can see an improvement I am happy.

If I want to share that then I will, if you don't believe it, fair enough, good for you.

But I do ask one thing, you have so many AI cheat threads going at the moment, please don't turn this one into one as well.

All I am reporting was that Leroy's tweaks did not work FOR ME. His tweaks might work for other people. And no, I'm not claiming FM is flawed, inconsistent or tactics don't do what they are supposed to do.

i use to deploy tight-marking at first, my defence was getting breached pretty easily and then i switched to lose marking and i've never looked back, i'm not saying tight marking doesn't work, it just doesn't for me. My guess is you've got to have the defenders with the appropriate attributes to pull it off, even then it still suffers when you come across the likes of good strikers

its a team game! whatever you have your defenders set to, you need to have your midfielders set appropriately to gain the optimum result for your team!

Opposition instructions apply to the opposition player, surely all my team will be doing the same thing.

E.g if I close down the winger often then my winger will attempt to close him down as he moves up the flank, then my fullback etc.

At 08:18 you posted that you would try his tweaks then at 08:56 you reported that it did not work for you.

Well I have 1 question for you, how the hell did you manage to play 9 games in 38 minutes? Even if you are playing them in commentary mode that would still be impossible and even if somehow you were able to play 9 games in 38 minutes you certainly were not able to do any in game tweaks which may have arisen such as going more defensive when winning or more attacking when losing.

Just something I thought I would point out as Arteta had asked Leroy1883 to explain why it di d not work out for the guy.

I'll try this out, certainly makes sense in theory, my defence has fantastic ability but leaks goals like crazy. I'll give it a go for a few months (game time, obviously) and report back.
