Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

There is one piece of info on the Team Talk Feedback page which I use as a good indicator.

If the squad more couldn't be higher then I am happy. If it is anything lower, even excellent you need to work to get it back up to couldn't be higher.

Also you can lose or draw games and provided you say the right things you can maintain this level.

It is independent of individuals morale.

I consider it one of the reasons for success, even with less technically gifted squads.

I know it will be a week away, but if you could upload the save game it would be usesful.

I'm nearly finished with my commentary translator, so I can re-watch matches to analyse what when wrong.

Cheers

As a 4 times winner of the EPL, 2 times winner of the Champions League

I would suggest a 4-1-3-2 tactic.

That is you need a physical DM in that midfield hold on defensive mode throughout the match..

I used that for my Liverpool team..

I do sympathize, I really do because I see this sort of thing all the time and am baffled by it, the random events, odd refereeing decisions, sudden "Ironic" injury crisis and the like. As if the game creates a scenario for you to deal with...I dunno, let the debate begin my toffee, er, Friend?...
I have the same situation here....In my game with Betis I won everything in my third season and I decide to sell my top player Sobis and give a chanse to Pato to replace him. I had one drow, win, win.... and after that something happen! The game decide "ENOUGHT" I lost 3 games: 1:0,2:1 and 3:0. .... goal from 30 yards free kick, ....and "Betis was punisheed by controversal goal" in those two game in a row! The game which I lost 3:0, my best DC recieved 2 yellow cards till 28 min ("Betis recieved a controversal yellow card")......I still manage to put 28 shots off target and only 3 on!!! My team is almost perfect, My STs are Pato and Bueno(15+ Jumping and Heading and he is described as "Clinical striker" - 19 Finishing) but he missed more tnah 20 headers....putting them in the middle of nowhere.....the ather fella Pato got more than 15 time one on one(15 finishing, 15 composure, 18 Pace,17 tecniquie,15 dribling,18 Off the Ball,16 Anticipation, 15 Desicion) and manage to hit the keeper twice(did not score ofcourse ) and "that was a siiter and he knew it"... "even his manager had his hand on his had"!....after this 3 games my team forgot how to play and I had 0:0 draw agains the 19th at home-more than 20 shots on goal....they have only one, the next game was against Osasuna - I was beaten 2:1, one goal from 30 yards free kick again(My keeper is 19 reflexes, 18 handling,18 possitionig,20 jumping,20 agility) and one of the most stupid goals I have ever seen - My MC passed the ball back to my DC,the DC went for it and then stroke by lightning stoped, the ball is staying in front of him for 2 or 3 second, then the oposite FC with his 10 Accleration and 9 Pace run 20 yards, got the ball, run again 30 yards with all my defenders on his back and scores!!! After this I quit the game...
I tnink that the game is programed to this when you are too god and successful to make your life more intresting and to give you somethig to think about

Arteta - Here's my latest test game using Arsenal.

This is the table so far.

I lost Henry for 4 months(still not fit) and every other striker has been injured at least once.(including Vela who i brought back from loan)

No real problems so far as results go, but i have come up against 3 teams who at the time were sitting bottom of the league.

Stats to follow.

Watford first.

A 30 yard free kick from De Merit got them a late equaliser.

Then Pompey

This is the first goal, Hleb has options as you can see, but decides to play a through ball to the Pompey striker instead.

The second Pompey goal was a penalty, one of those from a long throw where your defender is deemed to have pushed the opposition player?, you know the one.

Sheff Utd next.

As you can see, we won this one, but it was pretty tight at 3-2 and we only finished them off in the final minute of time.

All bottom of the table clubs at the particular time we played them, but look how easy they found it to score against Arsenal, top of the Prem?.

Almost half of all the goals we have let in so far have come from these 3 games. Again to me this more than suggests that the AI manipulates the game to "even up" the games at will?, or is their a better answer?.

Arteta: First of all, I normally always argue that the game doesn't cheat and that many problems that people complain about are usually down to something they're doing wrong.

I do, however, completely agree with you that the feedback in the game is rubbish and needs improving so that the player has some idea of where they're going wrong, and from there can figure out how to fix it. The same goes for goal kicks, they are definitely faulty at the moment. I've abandoned goalkeeper distribution altogether now and just leave it on the default settings.

As for your losing streak can I ask you a few questions.
When you were playing Viduka was he playing a kind of target man role? If so then his replacement, Delgado, will not be able to fulfil this role and this could be a problem.

Also who is your captain? Many people have found that picking the right captain can be supremely important in getting consistant results. As are team talks etc. If you're leaving yours to your ass man in the long term then you'll eventually run into trouble imo.

It could just be that, although you have confidence in your tactic, the players you've brought in don't fit well with that tactic.

Doesn't work for Newcastle. Played it one season and finished 15th.

Nah, I changed my tactic slightly to accommodate 2 fast strikers. I was playing Viduka in a free role target man to feet role. My captain has been Taylor all along.

Coincidentally, I lost Delgado for 4 months along with Flamini for 3 because all new players have to get injured as I am sure you will have noticed by now—if not you will now I have told you, so I put Barton and Viduka in and I am suddenly playing well again. All I can conclude is that Delgado was the cause. Of course, this could be a complete coincidence; my team may be coming out of their slump or have gelled. This is a perfect example of why the game is poor. Because I simply do not know...

Again Arteta, I agree with you especially on the info/feedback (not enough of!) issue.

If you have been following my Liverpool threads (Doubtfully laughable, yes I know ) you'll have seen pure frustration in the making - I start out all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as I declare "This is the time it'll come good!" Then i'll tear through opponents in friendlies then in the league we'll do great, my team will play like a dream, then all of a sudden BANG!..
EVERY SINGLE ONE of the anomalies you have mentioned will start to happen. For no reason.
I will be at a complete loss as to why it has happened because, like you say, we're not told by our ass man or by in-match feedback (Because red cards, missed open nets, ridiculous mistakes and daft goals say nothing tactical).

I agree with you totally, and it needs to change.
