Assuming you use different tactics depending on the opposition and whether you are home or away when do you make the change?
Does it matter if you change the tactic days before the game or just before you click Go To Match?

Keep an eye in the formation box and see what the AI is using. Ensure you are using the appropriate tactic to counter it and remember during the game to continue watching it for when he changes to 4-2-4 and so on. Then you can change accordingly.

So it doesn't matter if the players get no warning as to a change in tactic from the previous game? What about training? Does training tactics not come in to this?

When you say a change in tactics you mean a complete new shape? or just different settings? If its justs ettings then I tweak mine as a rule on a game by game basis and during a match if I feel I need to.

But I never change the shape of my team at all. Players become unsettled and never get to grips and settle down to playing 1 particular way. I think changing the shape is a hinderance on a team. There is no reasons why you can't play the same shape but with different settings for away games etc.

I think you are getting confused between tactics and formations.

Constantly changing FORMATIONS is what will get your players disrupted and playing inconsistantly.

The same formation (4-4-2) for example can have many variations such as defensive, counter attacking, attacking etc etc and that is fine. That won't disrupt the side, and furthermore you can change it at anytime you want without causing mayhem.
