Does Roo really still work in FM08? No one has had any serious discussion. It destroyed in 07. No one has seemed to come up with any definitive theories on the FM08 engine.
Cleon I know you're busy lately. Rashidi I guess you too. Wwfan I guess you also. This is the toughest version of FM so far I'd say and most of our tactical gurus are living in the real world. I've tried many of your theories but cannot really find that same success they had in 07.
I'm just trying to start some discussion so we can come up with the definitive set of theories for this version. Lots of people are failing at this. Discussion is necessary.
The Roo system of setting up 14 tactics with mentalities shifted by one doesn't seem to work anymore. Every version of FM has had that one tactical quirk that makes your team play to full potential. Lets find it for this version.
Post here what has and hasn't been succesful for you.
For me personally
Unsucessful: using 14 Roo mentality tactics. Using offside trap with a high defensive line.
Succeful : Preventing goals by setting my entire team to positions inside my own half and lowering mentality to ultra defensive, putting time wasting to max, narrowest width and longest passing possible.
The Fiora2 tactic seems to be working well for me in the lower leagues. It's a more orthodox 4-4-2 formation, with farrow from one MC and a barrow from the other, with wide ML & MR both with farrows. One of the strikers has a barrow to drop back a little.
I find that with any tactics, you always need to tweek the individual sliders to suit the players at your disposal. I think this is why alot of players stuggle tactically and you inevitably see countless posts on threads saying "this tactic does'nt work for me".
