I'm about 1/3 of the way into the 1st season and am in the bottom 3!
Starting with Woodgate, Huth and Pogatetz injured is a struggle....and not having a goalscorer of quality is disgracefully hard! (Southgate why oh why did you let Yak and Vids go?)
On the plus side Tuncay is an amazing player! I'm hoping for an injection of cash in January or Downing is off as are Arca and Boateng to fund my recovery.
I'm playing a direct 4-4-2, with my wingers pushing forward, leaving Boateng/Catermole and O'Neill to hold the middle of the park...I'm not getting swamped...but just cant convert chances into goals!!
I have Johnson. 5 in his first 6 and nothing in his next 7. How are you playing him? Do you support him through the middle or down the flanks?
I'm playing with Mido (Target man) and Johnson as a fast striker, with Tuncay running in from the right, Downing hugging the line as a typical left winger?
I dont use target man or playmaker. Short passing all the way down and the focus passing is on mixed. I have all the midfield playing through balls to supply Johnson. Most team instructions are in teh middle execpt passing (short) and tempo (quick). I dont play counter or offside.
Johnson is my top scorer with 11 from 16 Tuncay has 7 from 19.
hi, i'm in my 2nd season. finished 7th in the 1st. sold huth, sold downing. brought in Defoe. Tuncay Bril!, Wheater Bril!, Mcmahon is Bril!
2nd season i have signed De Jong from Ajax (looks great) and signed Alfonso Alves (pre season 8 in 4) just about to start the season can wait. looking to break into top 5!
After a few attempts i finally got on a good run with Boro, managed to finish 4th in first season! Managed to get lucky.
first thing you need to do is sort out the keeper, schwarzer is definately past it!
Vincent Eneyema is good, or Oswaldo Sanchez will do till you can afford a decent back up. once you get one of them try and get rid of schwarzer and brad jones. Sell whoever goes first and keep the other, or recall Turnbull from loan as he'll do for back up.
Sell Arca, should be able to get about 3-3.5m for him. Rochemback is the best midfielder boro have, he got into double figures for me playing as a Pirlo type player. If possible sell boateng as well, he's past it, Cattermole and Shawky can be decent ball winners, but it's better to play O'neil in the middle.
Downing on the left wing (aml) and tuncay on the right (amr) upfront just rotate the strikers. It's an area that definately needs strengthening. Billy Sharp could be a good buy. Although on a low league game i started boro bought Cabanas and he went on to finish top scorer in the league. May be worth a look.
Defence definately needs strengthening, even if it's just a temporary loan move till woody and huth are fit. I never managed to find someone as i'd spent a fair bit getting Billy Sharp, Eneyema and Marek Sapara
I played a 4-4-2 but moved the wingers into the aml/r positions. had both mc's as slightly defensive but with the o'neil type on with often forward runs, his work rate and fitness meant he could keep going all game and keep the opposition under pressure. Rochemback was great as a playmaker, and focused passing down the wings. also give him long shots often! he scores quite a lot. Keep the defence tight and i used Wheater and Riggot till injuries cleared. Always make sure wheater is going up against the taller more physical players. Not the clever quick ones or he'll be unable to cope. And making him the focal point for corners is a good idea.
1. Murrey (ex wolves)
2. McMahon
3. Taylor (in the england squad)
4. Woddy
5. mad dog
6. catts
7. de Jonk (ajax)
8. Tuncay
9. Defoe
10. Alfonso Alves
11. Nani (on loan)
i had a very good start but then was beaten by Bolton 4-2 at home. after that still un defeated after 10 games.
