Default Potbooting poof on the loose in Llamaland

Patched and repatched my FM2007, then played three seasons: update time.

For those not interested in the intricate details, I'll put the hard facts in seperate posts.

2006

Started the game with all European top leagues + all lower leagues from non-puny European countries (65-ish). Large Db.
Began the game unemployed with automatic reputation.

At the start of the game, there are dozens of clubs looking for a manager. Applied for the job at Asmundstorp IF in the Swedish 2nd Division South Gotaland.

To my surprise they want to go ahead with me, expecting me to battle bravely against relegation. For €400 per week, I'll give it a go.

I'm up against it: the team have 20-ish players, 4 of whom are not younger than 18. Of the remaining 4, one doubles as the Assistant Manager, he's 40

years old

First, 7k in hand, I go on a shopping spree to be able to fill a team with people who are not on a youth contract. My one scout fortunately finds a lot of players, so at least there are players to sign. As beggars can't be choosers, I just go for filling each position as well as I can, even signing a DL of

37 years old (I hope he'll take up coaching after retiring...) I just need people, as the season is only 22 games long and I need results as of day 1.

Survival is all that counts.

I sign a fair few players, on a free if possible, or else giving in to extortionate 50% sell-on clauses and the likes. I hate doing that, because I'm a

stingy git Then again, because I am in such dire need of players, I let even them extort me as well and blow my wage budget in no time flat,

causing my board to forbid any more transfers in, during this season. Oops

We lose the first few friendlies, having to play with a bunch of youngsters. Once older players start trickling in we start getting results. By the deadline

of the player trading madness, we have signed no less than 10 players. An 11th, a very promising looking youngster, joins us halfway into the season.

After a few severe losses at the start of the season, my guys get it together, even going on a 3-game winning/5-game non-losing streak
We're so extremely lucky as not to have an injury crisis, that helps of course, with such a thin selection.

The promising youngster (16 years of age) scores three goals by dribbling past four defenders from the halfway line, looks like I found a gem there

2007

The board have given me no transfer kitty, but some more room for wages. I sign 2 players to have a little more depth in the team. An attempt to sign another

one is torpedoed by the board, they really won't let me go over my wage budget.

This year, we're expected to stay clear of the relegation zone. Instead, we come 2nd, 10 points behind Limhamn. Despite being freshly promoted from even

deeper depths then our division, they routinely blast even us from the pitch (5-2). Pity they were so dominating, because our 44 points would have made us

champions, clear by 4 points, last year.

Alas, coming 2nd counts for nothing in this division, but there's plenty to be positive about: again, we avoid an injury crisis. We manage to sell an AMC to

a First Division team for good money (50% of which goes to his former club though, ouch ). With part of the transfer money, I quickly sign a couple of

promising forwards and another AMC, again stretching the money alotted to wages to the limit. Board and fans are exalted. I hope it shows in the attendance

figures, next season. The financial situation is becoming somewhat of a worry.

Average attendance: 325. Percentage-wise, quite an impressive improvement :/

Balance -€348k, falling at 25k per month. A board investment of €150k and selling a player for €350k kept us 'afloat'.

2008
The little more space the board allow me in wages is quickly eaten up by renewing contracts for my current players. The bunch of friendlies we play at the start at the season don't really give hope for a brilliant season, we get trounced by teams no more than one league up and draw against our peers.

Yet, we start the season in an incredible way, winning the first match 7-1, then winning 9 matches  on the trot. Guess my squad has gelled (The Dutch FA now offer me the job of manager of Oranje. I'm too flattered to accept - Also the offered Oranje u21 job, a week later, gets a polite 'no thanks'.) We equalize two more, then finally lose for the first time to number two team IFK Malmö (through a dodgy penalty and an own goal ).

Fortunately this does not lead to a slump, we keep winning.

A signing from last year who was doing well gets sold halfway through the season, slashing our debt in half.

I think I have sufficient cover for him. Because we are doing so well, promotion seems a real possibility - even though number two is never far behind. So I go on the lookout for players who are more than place-fillers, but I find that no decent player even wants to consider signing for us.

On the penultimate day of the competition (the day before my birthday, as it happens) we win the league  We lose the last game, guess my boys were still hung over... Still, we end the campaign with only two losses.

I sign a new contract (still on a lousy €450 per week), but get no say over wage budget nor transfer amount.
