Default What did you see at Wetherby Road?

Here is my first LLM story. Playing FM 2007. I wasn't actually supposed to post it here, but here is the first three seasons.

All leagues full - England
All leagues normal - Italy & Spain

2006/2007 - Harrogate Town (Conference North)

I let Frank choose my team and he chose this northern England team.
The media predictions were low and the board expected a year of struggling.

Our stadium - Wetherby Road - have a capacity of 3800 (450 seated), but we never managed to fill it all up.

As I had no transfer funds I sent out my scouts to look for players who could be signed in a free transfer. I signed 3 players.

The season wasn't a success, but we managed to get clear of relegation and wasn't acutally in any danger.

My top scorer with 20 goals signed for league rivals Hinckley at the end of the season

Conf North - 18th, 50 points
FA Cup 4th Qual. Round - Harrogate Town - Morecambe 0-3
FA Trophy 3rd Qual. Round - Guiseley - Harrogate Town 1-0

Premier League: Arsenal
Championship: Crystal Palace
League One: Nottm Forest
League Two: MK Dons
Conference Nat.: Oxford
Conference North: Kettering
Conference South: Sutton Utd
F.A. Cup: Tottenham
League Cup: Charlton
F.A. Trophy: Grays

2007/2008 - Harrogate Town (Conference North)

A much better year for Harrogate town even though it started even worse than the year before.

Again I had no transfer funds, because of the financial situation at the club. I brought in 11 players before the start of the season. One of them a young target man, who I had loaned the year before. I also signed a young Italian from another English team.

As mentioned the season started very badly and 17 matches into the season I was rock bottom of Conference North. But now things changed - I loaned two players from upper leagues, a forward and a midfielder and now suddenly we started to win matches and before we knew it we were competing for the play off spots. Leigh RMI already had a big lead in the very top of the league.

Finished 2nd and won promotion through play off matches agains Gateshead and Redditch.

We did a very good job in the cups this season going all the way to 2nd round of the FA cup, but was beat by Conf Nat. team Soutport away after a draw in the first match at Wetherby Road. In the FA Trophy we also produced good performances, but lost to FA Trophy holders Grays.

Conf North - 2nd, 70 points
FA Cup 2nd Round Replay - Southport - Harrogate Town 4-1
FA Trophy 3rd Round - Grays - Harrogate Town 3-1

Premier League: Tottenham
Championship: Birmingham
League One: Cardiff
League Two: Shrewsbury
Conference Nat.: Stevenage
Conference North: Leigh
Conference South: Crawley
F.A. Cup: Chelsea
League Cup: Chelsea
F.A. Trophy: Rushden

2008/2009 - Harrogate Town (Conference National)

An exiting year for us. Brought in 7 players free and in addition to that I re-loaned the midfielder who helped us a lot to achieve promotion last year.

We were supposed to struggle to avoid relegation and it really was a year of struggling and it was in the very last game of the season we were to find out if we were going to get another year in Conference National. We won the last two matches and stayed in Conf Nat.

Conf Nat - 20th, 48 points
FA Cup 1st Round - Gillingham - Harrogate Town 2-1
FA Trophy 3rd Round - Worcester - Harrogate Town 3-2

Premier League: Man Utd
Championship: Charlton
League One: Doncaster
League Two: Millwall
Conference Nat.: Morecambe
Conference North: Gateshead
Conference South: Forest Green
F.A. Cup: Man Utd
League Cup: Everton
F.A. Trophy: Sutton Utd

2009/2010 - Harrogate Town (Conference National)

Another year of struggling both in the league and in the cups. Only three matches in total in the cups.

The club still being in debt can't offer me any transfer funds still, so another year of free transfering players. 13 players comes in while 14 players is sold for £73K. 6 of these players are bought some time into the season, simply because of our horrible form.

Loaned another player from Huddersfield, who turned out to be my best midfielder this season and in post-season I signed him for free.

Our top scorer this season scores only 8 goals - that tells quite well what our season was like. We didn't really succeed in anything, but despite of this we actually had a chance of survival in the very last game of the season against 4th place Exeter. We lost and got relegated in our 2nd season in Conf Nat.

Conf Nat - 21st, 46 points
FA Cup 1st Round - Carshalton - Harrogate Town 1-0
FA Trophy 1st Round - Rochdale - Harrogate Town 1-0

Premier League: Chelsea
Championship: Birmingham
League One: Brighton
League Two: S****horpe
Conference Nat.: Woking
Conference North: Stafford
Conference South: Weymouth
F.A. Cup: Fulham
League Cup: Aston Villa
F.A. Trophy: Grimsby

2010/2011 - Harrogate Town (Conference North)

The board expected only a respectable position, but I really wanted a promotion, but I found out quite soon into the season that it wouldn't be as easy as I

thought.

For the first time we had a little transfer funds to use so I chose to use a bit - £25K for players and signed in total 7 players. 5 of them turned out to be

great signings. 14 players out for free.

All in all it was a good season where we had a lot of success and Wetherby Road saw a lot more of the spectators and we had a good period of sold out matches

and our balance turned to plus.

Ended 3rd position and faced Stafford and Redditch in the play offs, but this time we didn't succeed in winning the last match against Redditch and we stayed

in Conf North.
