The media expected us to be among the favourits to win the Conf North this year and we certainly were.
After the pre-season in which we brought in three new first team players, a keeper, a DR, and the two players I loaned in season 2007/2008 in order to achieve promotion. I signed the attacker, but the midfielder I only was able to loan again. With this squad I was confident that we were able to dominate the league.
And so we did. We dominated the league - we actually was at position 1 all the way through the season and with 4 match days to go we had won the title.
Some of the players I signed the past two seasons really stepped forward and did some great performances. I also got rid of 9 players. Some of them were getting too old and some were simply not good enough anymore.
We still had trouble in the cups though. No success this year neither. Losing in the FA cup quals and in the second round of FA Trophy.
Our financial situation changed during the season. We had a lot of spectators throughout the season and we suddenly had almost £500K in the bank.
So, no big surprises this season really. We won promotion and our financial situation got much better and with conceeding under a goal per match this season the defence seemed capable of competing at a higher level which we now are going to.
