Season One (2005-2006): Portstewart (Northern Irish League Second Division)
Bit of an unpredictable season as at various stages we were anywhere between 1st and 10th. Eventually a decent run of results at the back end of the season saw me rise to
3rd which was about as much as I could hope for. As ever in NI finances were the problem; despite making 40k selling off some of my better players during the season I still ended the season 18k in the red.
Still, I've not got a bad squad and if I can keep most of it together the future looks reasonably bright.
Season Two (2006-2007): Portstewart (Northern Irish League Second Division)
Inconsistency cost me as despite beating top-2 teams in the last 3 games (7-1 & 3-0) I missed out on promotion by a point, ending up
5th with 34pts (which would have seen me go up the previous season). Still a decent season, far exceeding media & board expectations.
Finances still a nightmare, just about staying ahead of the curve by selling players for 81k total.
Season Three (2007-2008): Portstewart (Northern Irish League Second Division)
It was probably my decision to just ignore all things financial (chairman can handle it) and get on with the football for a while that gave me my most successful season yet.
It wouldn't have occurred to me in pre-season when I lost all 5 games in the Intermediate League Cup; or with 6 games to go when I was 7pts off the promotion positions. But once again I went on a great run towards the end of the season and finished
2nd, with 42pts. I could even have won the title on the last day but Ballinamallard came back to win from 2 goals down to keep their top spot secure.
Squad probably needs strengthening, but I'm hoping the step up will increase attendances and ease some of my growing financial problems a bit.
