Okay, so I'm Liverpool, beginning of the season went a bit iffy a loss to sunderland and then I get knocked out of the FA cup in the third round 4-0 by Wigan (I was fielding a full-strength side) and every minute or so HESKEY would make runs through my defence and do skills past carragher. That's just the beginning.
Anyway, I have been planning on buying a centre back with some pace because EVERY game no matter who it's against, one of the opposition's players will get around 10 one-on-ones with my keeper, I have done everything right, I know it's not my tactics because I have my defence fairly deep etc and players marked. Now I have conceded in EVERY game even when i go defensive and against the likes of Man UTD they have like 50 chances in the whole game and I have like 5.

Now I'm really peed off because I'm in the semi=final of the champions league against arsenal and I played them at home with a 4-5-1 defensive formation and lost 3-1 they were all over me and my defense couldnt cope with ADEBAYOR and BENDTNER come on that's just not meant to happen. I keep restarting from the beginning of that game, have tried every tactic known to man and I get slaughtered.

I am moaning at the unrealisticness of the game in general, I should also point out that I lost to Fulham 4-2 having 80% of possesion for the whole game and they had tons of chances??? I know I am clueless and for one of their goals konchesky tackled gerrard in his box, took on like 5 of my players and blasted it in from outside the box, I'm gonna take this game back cos it's a waste of my time.

Because the match engine is so much better in beta 1. The closing down bug is somewhat visible in beta 1 ut I find it is not that big of a deal.

The shots/goal ratio bug in the final patch is a game breaker for me.

Exactly. Go through the process of re-installing and getting back to beta 1 and you will be happy. I did and I love the game again.

It might just be me and I'm not going to make this a "fanboy" post before anyone says that I'm also not going to say that you are "tactically inept" as without a doubt, FM2008 has continued to develop the tactical aspects of the game and has become more difficult for many players.

There are a number of significant issues with the game that are widely documented on the forums here. I'm sure we've all made enough posts to highlight them and have a bit of a whine. Hopefully, they will all have been acknowledged and rectified by the time the 8.0.2 patch is available, sometime around February, after the transfer window closes. (Although I personally would prefer SI to release a "game issues fixed" patch and the inevitable "data updates" patch seperately, rather than bundled together as is normally the case :thup: )

For my own part, at the moment, I'm playing as Hyde United in the Blue Square North. I am using the Fiora2 tactic. Follow the link to this thread about the tactic and where you can download it.

I am currently enjoying a superb save where I have managed to get Manchester United as a parent club, loaning several players to "boost" my club significantly. The lowest win in my opening 5 games was 3-1.

Obviously I have players on loan who are far superior to the standard of the Blue Square North, as my results clearly demonstrate. But the Fiora2 tactic works superbly for me and is well worth a try. when looking through the thread, I believe that it was originally designed for the 8.0.0 release and has been tweeked a little for 8.0.1 as some had noticed a few changes.

For my own part, I've yet to notice any problems with the shots to goals ratio, or the one-on-one problem, using this tactic. When I watch the games, the type of goals scored is quite wide and varied, which suggest that you can work around the "bugs".

I believe the author of this tactic used it with Liverpool, so may be worth you looking at if this is the team you play with.

This really is a good game at heart, but does require alot of patience and I can only say keep at it.

I would also point out that I've not tinkered with the editor, or cheated in any way - although some of the folks on the LLM threads might frown at my audacity to sign so many loan players from Man Utd as it's "unrealistic".
