I only use it for specific kind of players, and depending on the floors in my tactic or what its based on. By this I mean, if you have a good pacey striker, and then one tall, strong striker with a good head, then ye I use it.
Obviously, I don't use it for the sake. I always find it useful to use, if you can not create chances, or you have a gap n play and need to hold the ball up. Which, to be fair, is self explanatory.
a TM has always been popular in tactics, especially "to head". Its very effective at all levels, but Lower Leagues get the most benefit in my experience. I cant name drop but have a look at a couple of threads around here, one called "Promotion Tactic" uses a TM and check out the ones they recommend.
I often use a target man but assign different instructions to specific players, make sure when choosing one that his stats are suitable.
For example:
If you are using ‘to head’ then make sure he has the correct attributes (Heading, jumping, strength) Look at players like Eddie Johnson & Iverson for the kind of stats you need.
If you are using ‘to feet’ then make sure he has the following (First touch, technique, positioning, balance) Look at Rooney
run on to (pace, acceleration, forward runs, decisions) Look at D.Bent
If using mixed, just be careful, It takes a good player (look at Drogba) to make the most of this. There is no point playing high balls to someone like Michael Owen for example, but Drogba could handle this as well as balls to feet.
