woah, goto work and come back to find a hell of alot of extra stuff posted.
So is that the end of the WH challenge? Because I'm disapointed if so, it really got me back into FM rather than waiting for the window to close and to update.
Coudl start a new thread, a new team even, single big updates and less questions....or all have our own interlinked threads....anyone?

| Maybe you had a three-month headstart of everyone else.
But details like these just escape most casual players. For the newb, questions will arise just from this observation of yours for just a simple league match.
In this case, a newb may have these questions:
(a) If Dean Ashton isn't going to be effective against Sol Campbell, would you have played him from the start and see how it goes or you would have replaced him with someone else?
(b) Who would you replace your lone striker with? What attributes would you be looking for his replacement?
(c) If you don't have players who can be a match for Sol, what would you have done? A change in tactics?
Just from the top of my head, I have already three questions and it's only for a game. </BLOCKQUOTE>
Without wanting to sound arrogant, that was the first thing I noticed. It would have been obvious to anyone looking at the match stats, as their usually high header completed % would be woeful.
So then the logical answers are the following (not what would necessarily work).
(a) With Ashton playing so well this season, I would have played him from the start.
(b) Eddie Johnson has higher strength, jumping and pace, giving him slightly more versatility. See if playing him as TM gives you more luck
(c) Stop lumping balls to Ashton's head.
Now, how you do (c) is the one you'd probably have to ask the real questions about, but for me the previous two questions were pretty self-explanatory. Quote: Kolobok
Millie,
Actually, the stats you posted are very similar to ones Cleon posted for his game against Man. City in response to my request. He was able (lucky?) to score, you were not. The only significant difference is Ashton's headers won stat. May be Portsmouth have better DCs than City, or it was Ashton's very bad day. Anyway, to me it's just proof (sort of) that Cleon's tactic is not the best setup to win when playing home against weaker/equal teams who play defensively. But I see no inconsistency.
| Agreed. The difference is the "luck", perhaps, that Cleon got in the City game. Don't worry, I'm not laying accusations at people's doors.
Makes sense, though. Micah Richards is a beast in the air, and if he properly marked Ashton out of the game then the stats would be similar.
I would have signed Stefan Iversen myself, though. That guy is an absolute beast. |

Just in case anyone was still interested, i went back to carry on with my own game, the one i stopped before the Chelsea game to have a look at Cleon's tactic?.
Funnily enough, the tactics i am using AND the in game tweaks i use/d came courtesy of Cleon.
I'm willing to upload the tactics and tweaks if anyone is interested?.
As you can see, i started with a 0-0 draw against Chelsea with very similar stats, which i found quite strange as the tactics i am using for this game are very different from Cleon's?. Anyway, we were mostly outplayed, but not completely and i'm happy enough to take an undeserved point as i wont see many more of them all season believe me.
My second game and subsequent 4-1 win against Wigan looks a tad lucky when you just see the stats, but watching the game tells a different story, as Wigan could only manage shots from distance, whilst we battered their goal from 6 or 7 yards.
The 2-1 victory over City did have an element of luck, as they had an early red card, which we took advantage of. Still City did score with their 1st shot on target and almost got the draw in the dying seconds with their 2nd on target.
The 3-0 win against Sheff Utd saw us get two early goals and take a bit of pressure in the second half and nicking a late 3rd. I changed from the home to the away tactic at ht, which usually does the job and did again.
The 1-0 defeat against Chievo came courtesy of their only shot on target all game, a 30 yard free kick, whilst at the other end their keeper played a blinder and had a 10 rating at HT.
Our 1st league defeat came off the back of our 1st defeat of the season. We had the early pressure and chances, but it was Villa who took the lead, again with their first shot at goal. Arteta missed a penalty for us, which put us behind at HT despite dominating, so i had to go looking for a goal2nd half, but instead it was Villa who added a 2nd. Our goal was just consolation.
We managed to beat Chievo and go through in Europe, but it was almost panic stations. We led 2-0 after peppering their goal with shots, but they pulled one back, again with their 1st shot of the game, but we managed to score again to qualify.
Since posting these results i have just lost 3-2 away to Blackburn, so maybe its our time to start struggling?.
The Boro game was a nice simple victory, 3-0 no suprises.

Jesus has Cleon been getting more stick for doing well again?! Anything is possible people
With 1 squad player signing, I tweaked and tweaked the tactic until quite magically it all fell into place and that's what resulted. Took a couple of hammerings off the big boys, think there was about 5 or 6 defeats and a few draws but I stuck with it, minimised changes unless forced to from a sending off or if I needed to rescue the game.
It proved to me that you can over-achieve massively still without tweaking game-to-game AFTER you've found that winning setup, and I did not cheat either |

As i suspected, things went tits up!.
Lost 3 on the trot and they have been described as "West Ham wont believe they've lost this?".
Below are the stats from our last game at Home to Spurs. Tottenhams only shot on target came courtesy of the penalty spot.
Of course the penalty itself was a refereeing blunder!.
Thats it for me, i simply cannot sustain the interest any longer.

| Wwfan, if you look at the stats, Ashton is going for quite a lot of headers. When this occurs against Primus and Campbell of Pompey, he will hardly win a sniff of a header, and thus he is playing much worse than when facing DCs who he has an even(ish) chance of winning a header against.

Thats why I'm so hungry for 08, it will be a clean slate.
