Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Cheers for the Advice cleon, Not sure if i have him holding up the ball. Cant check until i get home from work.

Mabye its to do with the fact i baised it on your diamond 442 only i play with 1 cm and 1 dm as opposed to 1 AMC.

So there is a gap between MC and ST. I should try to make the mc mentality a little more attacking to close the gap and mabye the st wont drop back as much?

I could prob make ST more attacking, but was working on the philosopy that mentalities need to be close together.

also cleon do you find a good additional way of neutrilising a threat of a fast striker is to play a low pressing game?

I did this and can seem to take them out of the game, but am i sacrificing something in attack doing this?

Cheers for the help. Sorry if i started any arguments. I'll think more before posting in future.

Thats could be a possible explanation aye.

That should work as the striker won't need to come looking for the ball. Does he have normal CF?

I've never thought of doing that actually. How do you find it works? I just tend to play the same but alter my D-Line mostly instead.

Attacking is a no no if you are the weaker team IMO.

Try a man marking system if you have the players with a lone striker up top. Your team will be set up similar to how Reading played against Man U at Old Trafford recently. The idea is to hurry the opponents into making mistakes by closing players down quickly, Your not going to dominate possession either so I wouldn’t worry too much about tempo, I’d personally stick to a mixed to slow tempo.

When you have the ball you don’t want to commit too many men forward, maybe two wingers, a striker and a mid on mixed runs.

Set pieces will be important, the week leading up to the game, increase set piece training, get your best headers in the box for corners, and make sure you chose your best players on set corners, free kicks etc.

At worst, this should get you a 0-0 draw but you may need a bit of luck along the way.

Make sure Eddie Johnson is holding the ball up, then idea is that when you attack your wingers and midfielder will make runs beyond him, make sure Johnsons’ mentality is not too attacking. Keep creative freedom low throughout your team and maybe have one of your wingers holding up the ball if they have the stats for it.

Good luck

Usually play him along side Jo, or Sturrage Have bendtner on loan also. I think Jo is classed as a ST though as is bendtner Not 100% about Sturrage Though

Well i find it works quite well, but ive done it along side your changes. So i'm not sure if its just your changes securing my defence or weather that helps in any way.

I have a 18 pace and acc defender which i use to man mark fast men, and using a deep defensive line so that helps alot.

But i read something on here about closing down, basically that the bar relates to where you start to close down. I always assumed a low closing down ment you just didnt close them down. But i just means you dont close down in their half If i recall correctly.

So my thinking was if i dont push into their half to press them, i'm less likely to be caught on the break!

I have the feeling though that it sacrifices a little in attack as i should be doing a bit better with the strikers i have.
