It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

I know players require time to get use to a new tactic and this is why everyone says to give the players a few games to adapt to the new tactics but I want to know what I would have to do so I could bring in a tactic for a certain game? Namely games against Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal and the players wouldn't require the time to get use to it just for that one game.

You would never be certain it would work how it should, due to the players used toplaying in a different shape. It would cause more confusion and be unsettling for them.

Why can't you use the same formation and just alter the tactics for certain games? Why do you have to completly change?

It's not completely changing it, just moving a striker back into midfield to create a 4-5-1 formation. I just feel that with my current tactic that works great against most teams will be exploited by the top teams and therefore I would like to just have someone in the middle to have extra bodies in there to make itm ore difficult for them.

The game still see's it as a new tactic and needs time to adpat to it.

This is something I do quite often late in the game. I bring off a striker for a midfielder changing from 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1.

I haven't experience any adverse effects from doing this.

In fact I find it an effective way to see out the game comfortably.

Thats because you do it in a game with 10 minutes to go, if you started the game playing a different shape than normal then that does have a negative effect.

If start the game as a 4-4-2 and then switch to a 4-5-1 in the first minute does that mean I get around the penalty of having a different formation?

No, but towards the end of a game it won't make much difference.

What about changing 1 small thing like the teams mentality? I changed it from less attacking to more defense, would that have any effect?

And because I didn't know what I orginally had the menality on, I loaded the tactic from the drop down menu to change the menality back to what it was, would that have any effect on players knowing the tactic?

i am manchester united and i play 4-4-2 most of the time but when it comes to the big games and i am away from home, i revert to 4-3-3 attacking formation as it gives me three central midfielders (usually fletcher, hargreaves and carrick) with 2 wingers (Ronaldo, Giggs/Nani) so it is in essentials 4-5-1. my team have no trouble switching to this formation
